Role Description The Safety and Security Officer is a full-time, on-site position based at Rochester Psychiatric Center in Rochester, NY. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors by monitoring facility grounds, buildings, and access points, and responding to safety concerns. Daily tasks include patrolling designated areas, checking doors and alarm systems, documenting incidents, and enforcing safety and security procedures in accordance with facility policies. The officer responds to emergencies, assists with crisis situations, and coordinates with clinical and administrative teams to support safe patient movement and activities. The role also involves providing courteous assistance to patients and visitors, participating in safety drills and training, and contributing to continuous improvement of security practices.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess skills in Physical Security, including facility patrol, access control, and incident response.
  • Candidates should possess skills related to Emergency Services, including emergency response, crisis management, and coordination with local authorities when needed.
  • Candidates should possess Training-related skills, including participation in safety drills, ongoing security education, and support for staff orientation on safety procedures.
  • Candidates should possess skills in working with Alarm Systems, including basic operation, monitoring, and reporting malfunctions or security alerts.
  • Candidates should possess Customer Service skills, including clear communication, professional interaction with patients and visitors, and conflict de-escalation.
  • Relevant qualifications include prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or healthcare settings; knowledge of safety regulations and confidentiality standards.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include completion of security or emergency management certifications, ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and willingness to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
