About Ride to Work RVA
Ride to Work RVA is a free transportation program that helps Richmond-area residents get to and from work. In partnership with the City of Richmond’s Department of Equitable Transportation, we coordinate reliable transportation services throughout Richmond and Henrico County.
Our service areas include the East End, North Side, Chamberlayne Corridor, Southside, West End, and East Henrico. Our mission is simple: no one should lose employment because they lack reliable transportation.
Position Overview
Ride to Work RVA is seeking a highly organized and dependable Dispatch & Scheduling Coordinator to manage daily ride assignments and communications between riders and drivers.
This position serves as the central point of contact for transportation operations, ensuring riders are matched with drivers, schedules remain accurate, and service disruptions are addressed quickly and professionally.
This is a remote, on-call position. Rather than working fixed shifts, you will monitor and respond to scheduling needs throughout the day, including ride confirmations, cancellations, schedule changes, driver call-outs, and last-minute transportation requests. The busiest periods are typically early mornings and afternoon shift-change hours.
This position focuses exclusively on scheduling and dispatch operations. It does not include payroll processing, invoicing, hiring, disciplinary actions, or personnel management.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain weekly transportation schedules based on rider requests and driver availability
- Assign riders to drivers according to geographic service zones, route efficiency, and shift times
- Communicate daily with riders and drivers via phone calls and text messages
- Confirm ride schedules and notify riders and drivers of updates or changes
- Manage same-day scheduling adjustments, including cancellations, no-shows, driver call-outs, and urgent ride requests
- Maintain accurate scheduling records, dispatch logs, ride assignments, and driver rosters using Google Sheets
- Monitor service coverage and identify recurring scheduling challenges or gaps
- Report operational concerns and recommendations to program leadership
- Escalate issues outside the scope of dispatch, including payroll inquiries, policy concerns, and formal complaints
Qualifications Required
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple schedules, priorities, and moving parts simultaneously
- Proficiency with Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel
- Reliable internet service and smartphone access
- Ability to respond promptly to scheduling needs while on call
- Familiarity with Richmond and Henrico County neighborhoods, major roads, and commuting patterns
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred
- Experience in transportation dispatching, logistics, scheduling, customer service, or operations coordination
- Experience working with transportation programs, rideshare services, nonprofit programs, or workforce development initiatives

Schedule & Availability
- On-call availability required throughout the week
- Weekly schedules must be completed by Saturday evening for the upcoming Sunday–Saturday service week
- Ability to respond to urgent scheduling needs during morning and afternoon peak service periods
- Average workload may vary depending on rider volume and operational needs
Compensation
- Flat-rate compensation of $500 per week
- Paid as a 1099 Independent Contractor
- Contractor is responsible for all applicable taxes and self-employment obligations
- Initial training and program orientation provided
Equipment Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A reliable smartphone capable of calls, texts, and email access
- Reliable high-speed internet service
- Access to a computer or laptop capable of managing Google Sheets and scheduling records
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to Ride to Work RVA program leadership.
