Job description

Resource Area for Teaching (RAFT) is seeking a part-time STEAM Facilitator to help deliver hands-on, engaging learning experiences through our Maker Mobile program, STEAM Nights, and community events. This is a dynamic, people-centered role ideal for someone who enjoys working with youth, leading interactive activities, and contributing to a mission-driven team that inspires curiosity and discovery.
Enjoy a flexible, part-time schedule (up to 16 hours per week) with hours that vary based on program needs, including school-day, afterschool, evening, and occasional weekend events. This role is grant-funded, with continuation dependent on funding availability.
At RAFT, we believe learning should spark curiosity, creativity, and joy. Our mission is to help educators transform a child's learning experience through hands-on education that inspires discovery. Through project kits, Maker Mobile events, educator workshops, and student programs, RAFT brings STEAM learning to life in meaningful and engaging ways.
What You'll Do
  • Support and facilitate hands-on STEAM activities for students (TK-8) at schools and community sites
  • Lead activity stations or portions of events as needed
  • Engage students in creative problem-solving, engineering, and science challenges
  • Support STEAM Nights, workshops, and family engagement events
  • Adapt facilitation style to meet diverse learning needs
  • Assist with event setup, breakdown, and materials organization
  • Load, transport, and organize program materials (including Maker Mobile support if assigned)
  • Collaborate with the Education Team to improve activities and delivery
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment

What Is Required
  • Experience working with youth (education, camps, afterschool programs, etc.)
  • Strong facilitation and group engagement skills
  • Ability to explain basic science and engineering concepts in a simple, engaging way
  • Comfortable leading or supporting hands-on, interactive activities
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliability and flexibility in an event-based environment

What You Bring
  • Experience with STEAM or maker-based learning
  • Familiarity with project-based learning or NGSS
  • Experience with community or family engagement events
  • Spanish language skills
  • Comfort using basic tools (e.g., hot glue guns, simple hand tools)

If you're energized by hands-on learning, working directly with students, and making a real impact in the community, this role offers a meaningful way to contribute. Whether you're an educator, an aspiring teacher, or simply passionate about inspiring young minds, you'll have the opportunity to bring creativity and learning to life in a dynamic, purpose-driven environment.
