Reese Enterprises traces its origins back to the Reese Metal Weatherstrip Company founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1918. The company began as a "roll former" of zinc and copper weatherstripping materials. Over time, door and window gaskets changed, and extruded aluminum shapes with vinyl, neoprene, silicone, polyurethane, nylon brush, or polyprene thermoplastic elastomer seals replaced the roll formed metals. Extruded aluminum thresholds, automatic door bottoms and door astragals were added to Reese Enterprises' product mix over the years. Reese Enterprises is headquartered in Rosemount, Minnesota, with its sister company Astro Plastics.

Astro Plastics has been designing and producing custom profile extrusions to resolve customers’ challenges for more than 50 years. Each product manufactured by Astro Plastics undergoes rigorous quality control procedures. Inspections are completed around the clock, and products are tested in our own laboratories. We work with our customers to develop and implement tests that subject products to real-world stresses. Astro Plastics has manufacturing facilities in Rosemount, Minnesota, and Covington, Georgia.

About the Role:

The MN Extruder Operator plays a critical role in the manufacturing process by operating and maintaining extrusion equipment to produce high-quality plastic products. This position requires careful monitoring of equipment to ensure consistent output that meets precise specifications and quality standards. The operator will be responsible for setting up machines, adjusting parameters, and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency. Collaboration with quality control and maintenance teams is essential to address any defects or mechanical problems promptly. Ultimately, the role ensures that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and company standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Determines necessary equipment for each product; sets up extruder and runs parts to established specifications and efficiency standards, making adjustments to operating conditions as necessary.
• Fills hopper with specified material as needed; operates grinder, punches, sandblaster, cooker, and other tools as required.
• Conducts product quality checks as necessary, completes paperwork in accordance with established procedures, packs products as necessary.
• Inspects, cleans, organizes, and maintains dies, calibrators, tooling, etc.
• Maintain accurate production records and report any deviations or incidents to supervisors.
• Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
• Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
• Trains operators as directed by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience operating extrusion or similar manufacturing equipment.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance tasks.
• Ability to read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and technical documents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1 to 3 years plastic processing experience operating extruders
• 1 to 3 years plastic processing experience operating fabrication equipment
• Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and production tracking.
• Associate's degree in a technical field

Skills:

The MN Extruder Operator uses mechanical skills daily to set up and adjust extrusion machines, ensuring products meet exact specifications.

• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and math skills.
• Ability to read blueprints and use precise instruments, such as calipers and optical comparators.
• Ability to operate various hand tools, machines, and warehouse equipment.
• Highly organized and able to effectively manage time.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED:

• Ability to solely lift and carry 50 pounds
• Ability to stand (50%), walk (40%), and sit (10%) of the time.
• Ability to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders.
• Sight and hearing corrected to normal levels.
