Job description

Reach Out Church seeks a dedicated Children's Church Director to lead and nurture its vibrant children’s ministry. This part-time role, requiring 20 hours weekly with essential Sunday morning presence, involves managing curriculum, coordinating volunteers, and fostering a safe, engaging environment for children ages 0-12. The ideal candidate will embrace creativity in weekly programming and special events, collaborate closely with volunteers and staff, and support the broader mission of the church community.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe environment and culture for all children attending.
  • Organize and prepare the Children’s Church Curriculum for each Sunday service.
  • Distribute lesson plans to teachers promptly, targeting Tuesday evening delivery.
  • Develop creative ideas to maintain children’s interest weekly.
  • Set up classrooms weekly, primarily on Sunday mornings or Saturday nights.
  • Order necessary supplies for classes, including diapers, snacks, and craft materials.
  • Manage facility operations such as unlocking doors, temperature control, and securing the building post-service.
  • Schedule and coordinate all teachers and substitute coverage as needed.
  • Organize and conduct volunteer training sessions for various ministry roles.
  • Recruit and maintain relationships with teachers, helpers, and childcare workers.
  • Evaluate the children’s ministry’s strengths and growth opportunities, implementing improvements.
  • Plan, organize, and delegate tasks for special children’s events (e.g., Easter Egg Hunt, Camp Expedition, Fishing Derby, Christmas plays).
  • Create and implement an effective, parent-friendly sign-in/sign-out process.
  • Maintain and organize the children’s church storage room.
  • Facilitate smooth transitions for children moving to youth ministry and broader church involvement.
  • Engage with families to foster inclusivity and involvement.
  • Participate in the church’s strategic planning team to advance the church’s vision and mission.
  • Support pastors and staff to accomplish church-wide goals and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Entry-level experience in children’s ministry preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum development and volunteer coordination.
  • Event planning and child safety management skills.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
