Job description

About Us
The Rochester Regional Joint Board (RRJB) is a diverse, progressive union representing over 9,500 active and retired members across Upstate New York. Our members keep our region running—working in factories, commercial laundries, warehouses, restaurants, and coffee shops. We believe in worker democracy, and we assist workers in any shop, large or small, to build collective bargaining power.
About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Organizer to direct strategic external organizing campaigns throughout Upstate New York. You won't be sitting behind a desk. You will be on the ground mapping regional workplaces, coordinating campaigns, building worker-led committees, and mentoring organizing staff to help non-union workers secure a real voice on the job.

What You’ll Do
  • Run comprehensive external organizing campaigns from initial worker contact to a ratified first contract.
  • Manage, train, and mentor staff organizers and member-volunteers on effective campaign tactics.
  • Identify and build representative, resilient worker leadership committees in targeted shops.
  • Draft campaign flyers, digital updates, and educational materials for regional workers.
  • Monitor campaign progress and maintain precise tracking of worker assessments and metrics.
  • Align campaigns with local Upstate New York community organizations, coalitions, and labor councils.

Requirements
What We’re Looking For
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in union organizing or community advocacy, with a clear track record of leading campaigns.
  • Exceptional listening and communication skills; ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
  • Total flexibility to work irregular hours, including early mornings, nights, and weekends based on work shifts.
  • High willingness to travel across the Upstate New York region to support active campaigns.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable, insured car for daily travel.
  • Bilingual fluency (especially English/Spanish) is a major asset across our diverse worksites.

Benefits
Pay & Benefits
  • Salary: $65,000 – $85,000, depending on experience.
  • Benefits: Full employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance; comprehensive union pension plan; and generous paid time off.
