As a Christian high school serving students in Richmond's East End, we are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with young people and helping maintain a positive, structured learning environment when classroom teachers are absent.

Rise Academy is an independent high school dedicated to cultivating the God-given potential of students in Richmond's East End through learning opportunities that equip them to flourish. We are committed to providing a supportive, student-centered environment where every student is known, valued, and challenged to grow academically, socially, and spiritually.
Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for supervising students, implementing lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher, maintaining classroom order, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. Substitute Teachers may be assigned to various subject areas and grade levels within the school.
Essential Functions
- Follow lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher
- Supervise students and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment
- Take attendance and complete any required documentation
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures
- Provide support and assistance to students during class activities
- Communicate important classroom information to the regular teacher upon their return
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Requirements
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 25 years of age
- Ability to effectively supervise and engage high school students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Ability to adapt to different classroom settings and instructional needs
- Commitment to maintaining a positive and professional learning environment
- Associate's degree or higher
- Previous experience working with youth, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, or education
- Experience in a school, church, nonprofit, or community-based setting
- Familiarity with classroom management practices
