Role Description This full-time, on-site Natural Gas Compressor Technician role is based in Texas Central South, TX. The technician will install, commission, inspect, and maintain natural gas compressors and related equipment across upstream, midstream, and refining/petrochemical facilities. Daily tasks include troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, performing scheduled preventive maintenance, and completing repairs to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation. The role involves reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals, documenting service activities, and communicating clearly with supervisors, engineering teams, and customers. The technician will also support start-ups and upgrades, follow all safety and environmental procedures, and contribute to continuous improvement of field service practices.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on mechanical skills in compressor installation, maintenance, and repair, including experience with rotating equipment and gas handling systems.
  • Technical proficiency in reading schematics, interpreting P&IDs, and using diagnostic tools for troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control issues.
  • Strong safety awareness, with knowledge of OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices in oil and gas or industrial environments.
  • Experience working with vapor recovery units, combustion units, flares, or related process equipment in upstream, midstream, or refining/petrochemical settings is preferred.
  • Effective communication and documentation skills, including the ability to complete service reports, maintain maintenance records, and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work on-site in varying field conditions, travel to customer locations as needed, and perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, climbing, and extended standing.
  • Relevant technical education or certification in mechanical, industrial, or instrumentation disciplines; previous experience as a compressor technician or field service technician is highly beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record; willingness to comply with all company policies, customer site requirements, and industry standards.
