    Job description

    Overview:
Job Title: Principal Architect - AI-Enabled Legacy Modernization
    Company: R2 Technologies
Location: Alpharetta, GA (Hybrid / Remote Options Available)
    Employment Type: Full-Time / Contractual
About R2 Technologies: R2 Technologies is a Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) headquartered in Alpharetta, GA. With over two decades of experience across global markets, we have built a reputation as a trusted partner for IT staffing excellence and cutting-edge digital product innovation. We are driven by innovation and operate on a simple philosophy: "We deliver what we promise, and we promise only what we can deliver." Beyond providing top-tier IT talent, R2 builds cutting-edge proprietary solutions like SmartEnt-an Enterprise AI & IoT Intelligence Platform utilizing advanced NLP and AI technologies. By partnering closely with our clients, we deliver technology-driven outcomes that are realistic, measurable, and impactful.
Job Summary: R2 Technologies is seeking a visionary Principal Architect to guide our enterprise clients through complex legacy-to-cloud transformations using the latest Generative AI capabilities. You will map out the transition from decades-old monolithic systems to modern, AI-integrated microservices without disrupting core business operations. You will rely heavily on AI analysis tools to map hidden dependencies in legacy code, define extraction strategies, and establish the architectural guardrails for how AI coding assistants will be used to safely rewrite and modernize enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities: * Architect end-to-end modernization strategies, utilizing AI to analyze legacy codebases (Java, C#, Mainframe/COBOL) and map out extraction paths to cloud-native microservices.
    • Define and enforce the architectural standards and guardrails for utilizing LLMs and AI coding assistants in enterprise refactoring.
    • Design target cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP) that natively support autonomous AI agents, vector databases, and modern data meshes.
    • Utilize AI-driven architecture tools to generate system documentation, threat models, and dependency graphs of aging enterprise monoliths.
    • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to oversee the safe, "slice-by-slice" migration of legacy systems to modern frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot 3+, .NET 8+).
    • Advise client stakeholders on technical debt reduction, AI readiness, and the strategic ROI of AI-assisted modernization.

Qualifications: * Up to 3 years of focused experience in AI-driven architecture, cloud modernization, or technical leadership.
    • Strong foundational knowledge of both legacy enterprise architectures (SOA, monoliths) and modern cloud-native ecosystems (Kubernetes, serverless).
    • Proven experience utilizing AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot) and AI analysis tools to parse and document complex codebases.
    • Deep understanding of enterprise security, compliance, and cloud deployment strategies.
    • Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and the ability to bridge the gap between legacy IT constraints and autonomous AI innovations.
