General Description
This is a full-time, hourly position that performs skilled work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and air conditioning equipment. The position reports to the Building and Grounds Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Repairs short circuits and broken wires. Installs or replaces electrical fixtures. Repairs and replaces electric motors and switches. Changes oil, cleans and repairs circuits.
2. Performs air conditioning work. Repairs and maintains A/C units.
3. Performs plumbing work. Repairs water and sewer lines.
4. Paints exterior and interior of buildings and offices.
5. Performs minor carpentry work. Operates power saws, lathes, and related equipment.
6. Makes repairs to specialized mechanical equipment. Calibrates and adjusts equipment and testing devices.
7. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to collection (septic) and distribution (water) systems for County owned buildings.
8. Coordinates scheduled pump-outs for county buildings,
9. Performs preventative maintenance on county buildings.
10. May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties.
11. Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in the building, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning, and mechanical crafts.
2. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the specific trades.
3. Ability to work from oral or written instructions, and from simple diagrams and sketches.
4. Skill in using a variety of standard hand tools, machines, and power equipment.
5. Ability to perform manual labor.
6. Ability to complete daily work sheets accurately.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Minimum of three (3) years experience in general trades work in one or more building trades.
(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
1. Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over).
2. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
3. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
4. Walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping.
5. Pushing, pulling, and reaching.
6. Driving.
7. Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
8. Equipment operations.
9. Climbing a ladder.
10. Sufficient physical strength, agility, and freedom from disabling defects
to perform heavy manual labor.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Works inside and outside in various weather conditions.
2. Uneven surfaces.
3. In, and with, moving equipment.
4. Exposure to dirt and dust.
5. Exposure to chemicals, insecticides, herbicides, solvents and oils.
6. Heights (15 feet or higher).

Note: Leave accruals may differ for bargaining unit employees.
