Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant


Join our Team
The Pulmonary and Sleep Institute is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our growing team and provide specialized care to patients with pulmonary and sleep-related conditions.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced NP or PA who is passionate about pulmonary and sleep medicine, patient education, and providing high-quality, evidence-based care. The ideal candidate will possess excellent clinical judgment, strong communication skills, and experience with pulmonary function testing (PFTs), respiratory medications/inhalers, Durable Medical Equipment (DME), and sleep therapy.
Key Responsibilities
Pulmonary Patient Care
• Evaluate and manage patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, including asthma, COPD, chronic cough, shortness of breath, and other respiratory disorders.
• Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories and physical examinations.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, imaging, and laboratory studies.
• Review and interpret Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), including spirometry, lung volumes, and diffusion capacity (DLCO).
• Recognize obstructive, restrictive, and mixed ventilatory patterns and incorporate PFT findings into patient treatment plans.
• Provide ongoing pulmonary follow-up care and monitor patients’ response to treatment.
Respiratory Medication & Inhaler Management
• Possess strong knowledge of commonly prescribed pulmonary medications and inhaler therapies.
• Understand and appropriately manage rescue and maintenance inhalers, including SABA, LABA, LAMA, inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), and combination therapies.
• Assess medication effectiveness and make appropriate treatment recommendations based on symptoms, PFT results, and clinical findings.
• Educate patients on proper inhaler technique, medication adherence, and the appropriate use of rescue versus maintenance medications.
• Understand nebulizer therapy and other respiratory treatments commonly used in pulmonary medicine.
Sleep Medicine Patient Care
• Evaluate and manage patients with sleep-related conditions, including obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders.
• Review sleep study results and assist in developing appropriate treatment plans.
• Manage patients receiving PAP therapy, including CPAP, BiPAP, and other prescribed sleep therapies.
• Review PAP compliance and therapy data and address barriers to successful treatment.
• Provide ongoing follow-up care and monitor patient response to sleep therapy.
• Have Inspire therapy knowledge.
Develop & Manage Treatment Plans
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using evidence-based medicine and current clinical practice guidelines.
• Adjust treatment plans based on patient progress, diagnostic testing, PFT findings, medication response, PAP compliance, symptoms, and clinical findings.
• Coordinate treatment recommendations with the supervising physician and clinical team.
DME & Sleep Therapy Management
• Knowledge and experience with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is required.
• Understand PAP equipment, oxygen therapy, nebulizers, respiratory equipment, supplies, compliance requirements, and documentation necessary for DME services.
• Maintain appropriate documentation to support medical necessity and insurance requirements.
Patient & Family Education
• Educate patients and families regarding pulmonary and sleep disorders, treatment options, respiratory medications, inhaler technique, PAP therapy, equipment use, compliance, and overall health management.
• Provide counseling regarding lifestyle modifications and strategies that support successful pulmonary and sleep treatment.
• Encourage patient participation and adherence to treatment plans.
Documentation & Collaboration
• Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records.
• Document assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, patient progress, and outcomes.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, respiratory therapists, DME providers, sleep technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, organizational policies, and applicable clinical standards.
Required Qualifications
• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner/APRN license.
• Current DEA registration.
• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Minimum of 2 years of NP or PA experience.
• Experience in pulmonary and/or sleep medicine strongly preferred.
• Ability to review and interpret Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs).
• Strong knowledge of pulmonary medications and inhaler therapies.
• Knowledge and experience with DME and PAP therapy is required.
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a physician-led healthcare team.
Preferred Experience
Previous experience in pulmonary medicine, sleep medicine, PFT interpretation, asthma/COPD management, respiratory medications, inhaler therapy, obstructive sleep apnea management, PAP therapy, oxygen therapy, or DME coordination is highly preferred.
Monday - Thursday 7:30 am - 5:00 pm Friday 7:30 am - 12 pm
