Job description

ROLE OVERVIEW

Prosoma is a growing digital oncology company improving emotional and behavioral support for people living with cancer. Its programs have reached more than 22,000 patients and have been validated through clinical trials and real-world use, with U.S. clinical and health-economic collaborations involving MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai. We are seeking an empathetic and highly skilled Lead Oncology Support Coach to serve as our founding U.S. coach.

You will deliver structured coaching and navigation through Living Well Plus, helping patients engage with the app, apply evidence-based coping skills, prepare for productive conversations with their care teams, and connect with appropriate support. As Prosoma's first U.S. coach, you will also shape the coaching playbook, quality standards, and training model used as the program scales.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Patient Coaching & Engagement: Conduct structured individual coaching aligned with Living Well Plus, our flagship mobile app, using motivational interviewing, reflective listening, goal-setting, and action planning to support coping, stress management, and sustained program engagement.
  • Navigation & Empowerment: Help patients identify barriers, organize concerns, prepare questions, access approved resources, and connect with the appropriate clinical or community service.
  • Personalized Action Plans: Co-create practical, patient-led goals related to coping, app engagement, communication, daily routines, and social support, aligned with each patient's priorities and clinician-directed care plan.
  • Monitoring & Escalation: Support protocol-driven review of the NCCN Distress Thermometer, PHQ-9, GAD-7, and engagement signals, and coordinate timely follow-up through Prosoma-approved clinical and safety pathways.
  • Program Leadership: Build the U.S. coaching playbook, session and documentation standards, escalation workflows, and group education or support programming as the service evolves.
  • Mentorship & Quality Standards: Train and mentor future coaches and navigators, support quality reviews, and collaborate with clinical, product, operations, and health-system partners to improve the patient experience.
  • Resource Curation & Documentation: Maintain approved, clinically reviewed resources and complete timely, accurate documentation of coaching interactions, navigation activities, time, referrals, and handoffs in designated HIPAA-compliant systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Health Coaching Credential:. NBC-HWC or another recognized health-coaching credential strongly preferred, with formal training in motivational interviewing and behavior change. An MCC credential may complement, but does not replace, oncology experience.
  • Oncology Expertise: At least five years of direct experience supporting people affected by cancer through oncology navigation, health coaching, care coordination, nursing, social work, or a closely related oncology role.
  • Oncology Navigation Training: Completion of the GW Cancer Center's Oncology Patient Navigator Training: The Fundamentals, or an equivalent program aligned with CMS Principal Illness Navigation competencies, is required before independently providing navigation services. OPN-CG is preferred and should be pursued once eligible.
  • Clinical & Ethical Scope Mastery: Demonstrated understanding of coaching and navigation scope, ethical standards, HIPAA, consent, documentation, safety escalation, and effective collaboration with oncology and behavioral-health teams.
  • Proven Patient Impact: Demonstrated success supporting people through serious illness or complex care transitions using evidence-informed coaching, digital health, and structured follow-up.
  • Communication & EQ Excellence: Exceptional active listening, empathy, cultural humility, sound judgment, and the ability to support patients and caregivers through uncertainty, grief, anxiety, treatment burden, survivorship, recurrence, or advanced illness.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Experience training or mentoring coaches, navigators, or care coordinators and developing consistent workflows, documentation, and quality standards. Spanish proficiency is preferred.

KEY COMPETENCIES & SOFT SKILLS

  • High Emotional Intelligence: Ability to support grief, anxiety, uncertainty, and hope with empathy, steadiness, and sound professional judgment.
  • Active Listening & Curiosity: Skilled in reflective listening and purposeful questions that help patients identify priorities, strengths, barriers, and achievable next steps.
  • Adaptability & Resilience:Comfortable adapting support to each patient’s emotional state, health literacy, culture, treatment burden, and digital comfort.
  • Professional Integrity: Strict commitment to patient privacy, ethical standards, evidence-informed practice, scope boundaries, and patient safety.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive Compensation: Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and credentials.
  • Flexible Work Environment: A primarily remote role with flexible scheduling balanced against patient and partner coverage needs.
  • Impactful Mission: A direct opportunity to improve support and quality of life for people living with and beyond cancer.
  • Professional Growth: Continuing education, oncology-navigation development, and the opportunity to build Prosoma's first U.S. coaching function.

Equal Opportunity Employer: We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all team members and patients.

HOW TO APPLY

If you combine deep empathy with strong oncology experience, sound judgment, and a commitment to evidence- informed patient support, we would like to hear from you!

Please submit your resume or CV and a brief cover letter describing your oncology experience, coaching approach, and program-building experience.
