Job Description
Technical Process Engineer Summary
The Technical Process Engineer is responsible for monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving processes directly related to the melting and manufacturing process. These technical processes include Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD), and continuous casting.
Technical Process Engineer Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyze process control trends.
  • Write procedures and manufacturing work instructions.
  • Investigate unexpected lab results.
  • Conduct studies, analyze data, evaluate operations, and provide recommendations for improving utilization of equipment, personnel, materials, and utilities.
  • Review yield and productivity data, identifying and investigating outliers.
  • Play an active role in cost reduction, interference management and labor productivity improvement efforts.
  • Develop and establish best manufacturing practices and processes and assure their effective implementation.
  • Evaluate equipment, operational sequences, and material flows to determine employee job functions and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Lead activities to improve data collection methods and updating of standards to accurately model workload capacities.
  • Work with and evaluate outside suppliers, service providers, vendors, and equipment manufacturers, as needed, to support projects and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing state-of-the-art manufacturing technology to support the company's strategic objectives.
  • Prepare reports, make presentations to communicate information, and provide operator training as required.
  • Manage assigned projects assuring timely completion in accordance with established parameters.
  • Work with all levels of the organization as technical support to assist in various assigned projects.
  • Facilitate root cause corrective action investigations and implement action items as appropriate.
  • Support capital equipment scoping, design review and implementation.
  • Maintain a program of professional growth through selected seminars, courses, trade magazines, books, journals, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Process Engineer Education and experience - Required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree required .
  • 5+ years' experience manufacturing engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience in liquid metal processing (VIM, AOD, Casting, etc.) is desirable.

Technical Process Engineer Skills/Competencies
  • Strong Project Management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with personnel at all organizational levels.
  • Presents information, data and conclusions in a clear, concise manner.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Office:
Must be able to frequently remain in a stationary position. Must be able to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Occasionally required to perform work in a manufacturing setting, occasional exposure to high noise level and heat.
Operations:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk or sit; regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
