Position Overview

Positive Change Therapy is seeking a dedicated and skilled Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic team in Bridgeport, Connecticut. In this full-time role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing the quality of life for our patients through targeted occupational therapy interventions, designed in collaboration with their attending physicians. This position offers a salary range of USD 83,000 to 120,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

Work Environment

The Occupational Therapist position is primarily onsite within our state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, where you will have access to modern therapeutic equipment and resources. Our facility provides a collaborative environment, working alongside a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care. You will typically work Monday to Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, with opportunities to engage in various team meetings and continuing education sessions.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough evaluations of patients to assess their current functional levels, establish individualized treatment goals, and determine a course of occupational therapy intervention.
• Implement and manage therapy plans that may include therapeutic exercises, self-care activities, and creative tasks aimed at improving both physical and mental functioning.
• Educate patients and their families on the use of assistive devices such as canes, walkers, and wheelchairs, thereby empowering them to achieve greater independence.
• Document patient progress through comprehensive clinical notes and maintain regular communication with the referring physician to report changes in the patient's condition.
• Supervise and provide mentorship to occupational therapy assistants as needed, ensuring the highest standards of care are met.
• Participate actively in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and in-service educational opportunities, contributing your expertise to enhance team performance.
• Guide patients in household management techniques, facilitating a smoother integration of therapy regimens into their daily lives.

Patient Population / Client Focus

You will work primarily with individuals recovering from injuries, surgeries, or illnesses that impact their ability to perform daily activities. Our patient population includes a diverse range of ages and conditions, providing you with rich opportunities to tailor your therapy approaches to meet unique needs and facilitate optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited occupational therapy program as recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) or equivalent.
• Current registration and licensure by the appropriate state authority to practice occupational therapy in Connecticut.
• At least one year of hands-on experience in a clinical or institutional setting, demonstrating effective application of occupational therapy principles.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification or equivalent.
• A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation for patient visits as necessary.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in a rehabilitation setting with diverse populations.
• Familiarity with the latest occupational therapy methodologies, tools, and technologies to enhance patient care.
• Skills in supervision and team collaboration conducive to mentoring and developing junior staff and interns.
