Compensation: $28.00-32.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience, nonexempt

Job Summary:

An established North Central Washington excavation and underground utilities contractor is recruiting highly qualified truck drivers to transport construction materials and equipment to and from jobsites throughout Eastern Washington.  The position involves operating heavy construction trucks and trailers, including dump trucks, water trucks, and tractor units (used to haul trash and equipment trailers).

Minimum Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years truck driving experience in construction or similar industry.
  • Valid WA Class A commercial driver license.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy trucks and trailers up to a maximum of eleven (11) hours per day, sixty (60) hours per week.
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR).
  • Current USDOT medical examiner's certificate.
  • Ability to drive for long periods.
  • Hearing and speaking sufficient to answer the phone and communicate with employees and others.
  • Visual for reading and writing.  Ability to see clearly at all distances, day or night, on roads and at construction sites.
  • Ability to safely walk and climb around trucks, trailers, and other construction equipment.  Ability to walk across variable ground conditions and elevations. 
  • Able to work in extreme weather, hot and cold.
  • Physical strength to carry and lift 60 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend.
  • Ability to comprehend technical manuals written in English.
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Reliable Transportation.
  • Excellent attendance and timeliness.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate heavy trucks (over 26,000 lbs.) and large trailers (over 10,000 lbs.).
  • Load and unload truck.
  • Perform basic maintenance including greasing, checking fluid levels and tire pressures.
  • Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting materials or heavy equipment.
  • Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure.
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Perform required inspections and report any deficiencies to shop mechanics.
  • Excellent attendance and timeliness.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Skills:
  • Exceptional record of safety.
  • Accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Basic mechanical, operating, and maintenance understanding of construction equipment.  Ability to inspect for leaks, damage, abnormal wear and tear, and other signs of needed repairs.
  • Preferred: HazMat certification.
  • Preferred: Ability to operate heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators) sufficient to safely load, unload, and transport machinery.  Ability to operate loaders and other equipment sufficient to safely load trucks and trailers with various construction materials.

Work Hours:

  • Regular hours are typically day shift hours; Monday through Friday, up to 60 hours per week, depending on workload.
  • Overtime may be required during the busy season.
  • Occasional Saturday and/or Sunday work, as assigned.
