Job description

A specialty pharmacy management group is seeking a Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) to lead the launch and daily operations of a new specialty pharmacy location in Lufkin, TX. This direct hire position offers the unique opportunity to build a pharmacy from the ground up, working closely with specialty care clinics to enhance patient outcomes and streamline specialty pharmacy services.
Location: Lufkin, TX (candidates must be willing to relocate from Houston, Tyler, or surrounding areas)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, hours to be determined
Responsibilities

  • Serve as the designated PIC with full accountability for licensure, regulatory compliance, and controlled substance oversight
  • Manage the build-out and opening process of the new pharmacy, including securing insurance contracts and coordinating with regulatory and accrediting bodies
  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations, ensuring accuracy in dispensing, patient safety, and adherence to clinical protocols
  • Develop and enforce policies/procedures related to prescription processing, drug storage, and pharmacy security
  • Lead audits, maintain detailed records, and respond to inspections from the Board of Pharmacy and other authorities
  • Supervise and train pharmacy staff to uphold quality standards and continuing education requirements
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to support formulary optimization and improve medication access
  • Investigate medication incidents and implement continuous quality improvements
  • Manage inventory, including temperature-sensitive and recall processes
  • Support pharmacy growth initiatives and value-based care efforts
  • Act as a clinical expert supporting patient counseling, therapeutic substitutions, and prior authorization reviews
Qualifications / Desired Experience
  • Prior experience as a Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacy Manager, preferably in outpatient/retail specialty pharmacy settings (inpatient experience not considered)
  • Active, unrestricted PharmD license in good standing, eligible to become PIC in Texas
  • Strong knowledge of specialty medications and pharmacy software (experience with EMR or specialty pharmacy systems is a plus)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with providers and compose appeal letters
  • Comfortable working onsite and engaging directly with patients, providers, and clinic teams
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and skilled in problem-solving within a startup environment
