Job description

Trading Manager

Location: New Rochelle, NY (Onsite full time role, 30 minutes from NYC)

Parchem, a leading international distributor of fine and specialty chemicals, is seeking a Trading Manager, a dynamic role in the business of global chemical distribution, manufacturing and supply chain dynamics.

Position Summary

The Trading Manager is a player-coach role responsible for driving commercial account growth at

Parchem, both by managing and expanding their own book of business and by leading a team of Traders to do the same. This person is a hands-on revenue generator: personally sourcing new business, growing existing accounts, and closing opportunities, while coaching and holding accountable a team of Traders and Key Account Managers on their own growth targets.

Key Responsibilities

Own Book of Business & New Business Generation

  • Manage and grow a personal portfolio of accounts, owning revenue, gross profit, and retention targets directly, in an active, hands-on trading role, not just an oversight function
  • Personally prospect, pursue, and close new business, and grow existing accounts through cross-sell, upsell, and deepened relationships
  • Set the standard for the prospecting, negotiation, and account-expansion behaviors the team is expected to replicate

Team Leadership & Development

  • Coach and manage a team of Traders holding them accountable for expanding their own books of business
  • Recruit, onboard and mentor Junior Traders through Parchem's training program, building their skills in sourcing, prospecting, pricing and account management
  • Set individual and team performance goals tied to growth and new business, and report performance and pipeline to senior leadership

Commercial & Market Oversight

  • Own the performance of the team's broader portfolio, including revenue, gross profit, and growth targets
  • Build and maintain relationships with strategic customers and suppliers, engaging directly on escalations, negotiations, and high-value new business
  • Identify new business opportunities and lead efforts to revitalize dormant accounts across the team's book
  • Monitor market trends, producer and competitor activities translating market intelligence into actionable guidance for the team

Qualifications

  • Highly motivated, exceptionally driven individual with great energy and positive attitude
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Chemistry, Sciences, Business, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in trading, chemical/other distribution and a demonstrated personal track record of growing a book of business and generating new accounts (not solely managing existing ones)
  • 3+ years of experience developing and leading a team, ideally with direct responsibility for team growth/new-business targets
  • Strong hunter instincts and negotiation skills: proven ability to prospect, pursue, and close new business independently
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure, especially during periods of market volatility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in specialty or fine chemicals, personal care, nutrition, or pharmaceutical raw materials and global sourcing considerations, a plus.
  • Proficiency with CRM/ERP systems and pipeline forecasting

Key Attributes

  • Bias toward action and ownership mindset: you move quickly, take full responsibility for outcomes, and use data to drive strategy and measure success
  • Resilient under pressure and intellectually curious: you thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes
  • environments and continuously dig into market dynamics to improve performance
  • An energizing, disciplined leader who builds and develops high-performing teams
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving growth and fostering alignment across functions

Compensation & Benefits

You are motivated by earning a combination of salary, commissions and bonus tied to P&L growth. Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and 401(k) profit-sharing
