Job description

Job Purpose:
- The Equipment Operator at PALMETTO GROUP is responsible for operating heavy machinery to assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of equipment to meet project timelines and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, and loaders in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct pre-operational checks and regular maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Follow project plans and instructions from supervisors to complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure seamless project execution and adherence to safety protocols.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs.
- Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment as needed.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge related to equipment operation and safety practices.
- Provide support in emergency situations and adapt to changing project requirements as necessary.


Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional vocational training or certification in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment such as bulldozers, excavators, or loaders in a construction or industrial setting.
- Proven track record of safely and efficiently operating equipment in compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Experience in performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of equipment operation and maintenance procedures, including the ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic mechanical issues.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness to maneuver equipment in tight spaces and challenging environments.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical manuals to execute tasks accurately.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders on project requirements and progress.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong focus on safety and attention to detail.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor and operate equipment for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and, if applicable, a commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.
