This position will work closely with the Site Safety Manager to provide day-to-day field safety leadership, contractor oversight, and project support within an active operating facility.
This is a hands-on field role for a safety professional who can take ownership, communicate effectively with contractors and plant personnel, and make sound real-time decisions while keeping safety, production, and project schedules aligned.
The project includes:
  • Structural steel, platforms, guardrails, and stair installation
  • Pipe removal, relocation, replacement, and process tie-ins
  • Concrete foundations, slabs, pours, and micropiling
  • Asphalt milling and resurfacing
  • Electrical demolition and installation, including MCCs, power/control circuits, lighting, and switchgear
  • Installation of process equipment including extruders, feeders, pumps, hoppers, blowers, airlock valves, transporters, and related equipment
  • Rigging and crane operations
  • Selective demolition
  • MEP system installation
  • Masonry and framing
  • Roofing and insulated panels
  • Doors, windows, and painting
  • HVAC equipment and controls
  • Fire alarm systems

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with the Site Safety Manager to provide daily safety oversight and field leadership.
  • Serve as a visible safety presence in the field and maintain strong relationships with contractors and project personnel.
  • Support safety activities associated with both greenfield and brownfield construction.
  • Monitor work involving process tie-ins and construction activities within a live operating facility.
  • Coordinate SIMOPS between plant operations, project personnel, and contractors.
  • Conduct field safety inspections, observations, and audits.
  • Identify hazards and provide immediate corrective direction when necessary.
  • Assist with contractor onboarding and conduct site-specific safety orientations.
  • Review contractor safety plans, JSAs/JHAs, and employee training documentation.
  • Help maintain contractor accountability to site safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate safety expectations while remaining cognizant of project schedules and production requirements.
  • Maintain detailed daily safety documentation, logs, observations, and corrective actions.
  • Assist with tracking safety metrics, identifying trends, and preparing information for project meetings.
  • Utilize SharePoint for project documentation, recordkeeping, and file uploads.
  • Work closely with the Site Safety Manager and project leadership to address field issues and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Step into a leadership role and make independent decisions when immediate safety action is required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous experience as a Safety Supervisor, Safety Lead, Assistant Safety Manager, Site Safety Representative, or similar role in heavy industrial construction.
  • Experience working in an active/live facility is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of SIMOPS, process tie-ins, contractor coordination, and working around ongoing plant operations.
  • Experience with heavy industrial construction activities including structural steel, mechanical, electrical, piping, concrete, rigging, crane operations, and MEP work.
  • Strong contractor management and field safety skills.
  • Ability to make confident, real-time safety decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and professionally de-escalate conflict.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to navigate SharePoint and maintain project-related documentation.
  • Experience conducting safety orientations and reviewing contractor safety plans and training matrices.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction safety requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively alongside a Site Safety Manager while independently managing assigned field responsibilities.
