Scope:Direct the experiential education curriculum of the PharmD degree program, including oversight of all accreditation standards addressed through experiential education, integration of experiential education into the remainder of the curriculum, interactions with external preceptors and sites, and advising and mentoring of students.
Principal ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Pharmacy Experiential Education is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the experiential education program within the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) curriculum. This role ensures that pharmacy students gain high-quality, hands-on experience through introductory and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (IPPEs and APPEs) in diverse clinical and professional settings. The Director collaborates with College administration, faculty, preceptors, and external partners to align the experiential program with accreditation standards and the college's mission to prepare practice-ready pharmacists.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead experiential team to design, implement, and evaluate the experiential education curriculum to meet Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) standards, ensuring that all accreditation requirements related to experiential education are achieved or exceeded.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures for IPPEs and APPEs, ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements and best practices.
- Oversee the scheduling, placement, and evaluation of students in experiential rotations across various practice settings (e.g., community pharmacies, hospitals, ambulatory care, and specialty practices).
- Ensure site and preceptor development meets or exceeds ACPE requirements.
- Assess experiential learning outcomes and objectives, and work with the Assessment and Curriculum Committees to address program needs.
- Conduct continuous quality assurance of the experiential program, including evaluation of IPPE and APPE sites and preceptors.
- Establish and maintain contractual agreements with all training sites to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the finances of the Experiential Education Office within the budget provided
- Conduct site visits and evaluations to ensure quality and compliance with educational objectives.
- Contribute positively to College environment through scholarship, professional and/or clinical service, and collaboration with colleagues.
Required Skills:Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required, as is experience or interest in developing budgets and financial management. The candidate should have excellent problem-solving and time management skills as well as commitment to the holistic development of all students. A willingness and potential to contribute to the research and service missions of the college and university are essential.
Minimum Qualifications:Candidates should have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree with additional experience, training, or education. Candidates with experience in precepting students and/or coordinating experiential scheduling are strongly encouraged to apply. A track record of professional leadership and fiscal responsibility are also desirable.
The individual must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Ohio.
