$24.94- $29.09 Looking for a role where you can use your law enforcement skills to protect the public and support the justice system every day? As a Court Deputy, you will help maintain safety and order within Oakland County's courts and government facilities while interacting with judges, court staff, attorneys, and the public.

Required Minimum Qualifications
1. Be a High School graduate or have certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test (GED).
2. Have had at least two (2) years of full-time experience as a police officer, military, corrections, or Federal Law Enforcement officer; OR
3. a. Have had at least one (1) year of full-time work experience as an Oakland County Sheriff's
Office Corrections Deputy; OR
b. Possess current MCOLES license OR be currently attending a Police Academy training or its equivalent (as required by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES); OR
NOTE: Must have successfully completed the police academy and be eligible to be licensed prior to the date of hire.
c. Be an Oakland County Sheriff's Office Reserve Deputy, Marine Deputy, Mounted Deputy, or Park Deputy and have completed 1,000 hours of service; OR
d. Successful completion of a Reserve Police Academy and completion of 1,000 hours of service.
4. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
5. Have not been convicted of a violation of criminal law including domestic violence. (Criminal law generally includes all offenses except traffic law, conservation law and liquor law. Generally, conviction for a violation of criminal law is automatically disqualifying).
6. Have at least 20/20 corrected vision with both eyes and have normal color vision and depth perception in both eyes.
7. Have normal corrected hearing in each ear, per Michigan Commission On Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).
Special Requirements
Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
Must maintain firearms qualification and deputy status.
A background investigation will be conducted covering an evaluation of employment, school, home, credit criminal, military or other personal records. Any conviction or convictions for moving traffic violations, accidents, non-moving traffic violations, or violations of other laws will be reviewed by the Sheriff's Office before an applicant can be appointed. Information obtained during the background investigation will be considered in the hiring decision. Convictions of the Domestic Violence Statute will be a disqualifying factor.
When Assigned to Courts or Other Satellite Locations
Deputies will operate stationary x-ray machine and hand-held metal detectors located in the courthouse lobbies to screen visitors for weapons and unauthorized objects. Deputies will direct the flow of traffic through the inspection area.
Performs visual inspections of briefcases, purses, packages, etc., and examines these items using hand held metal detectors as necessary.
Checks identification for individuals authorized to carry weapons. Secures firearms in weapon storage areas (lock boxes) or directs individuals to secure weapons and oversees this process.
On occasion may have to search individuals for concealed weapons and/or contraband.
Responds to disturbances and maintains order by warning individuals and apprehending disorderly persons. Restrains individuals and assists in making arrests.
Responds to emergency situations in cases of illness, injury, or the court rooms to prevent individuals from exiting the building or causing a disturbance.
Utilizes a two-way radio to place and receive calls and request back up support as necessary.
May provide emergency first aid and/or CPR services until medical assistance arrives.
When Assigned to District Courts
Provides security in probation departments, front lobby/cashier areas and outside perimeter of courthouse buildings including parking lots.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities
Answers questions and provides directions and basic information to the public regarding judicial and other County offices located in the courthouse.
Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Essential Mental & Physical Requirements
Ability to guard an area for a full eight hour day, operate a motor vehicle, speak and give commands, perform inspections and deliver items.
Working Conditions
Work is generally performed inside a building or may be in a motor vehicle. May need to go outside to deliver items or search areas.

Some experience performing security work that requires the exercise of independent judgment based on reasonable knowledge of security practices and procedures.
Night vision certification.
Instrument rated in rotocraft or fixed wing aircraft.
Possess current Flight Instructor Certification in rotocraft or fixed wing aircraft.
Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and Internet software.
