Job description

North Suburban Legal Aid Clinic (NSLAC) is a dynamic nonprofit with a collaborative culture and the goal of becoming the model legal aid organization focused on suburban communities.


The mission of NSLAC is to provide accessible, quality, equitable, free legal services in the areas of domestic violence, housing, and immigration to give low-income, at-risk community members access to justice and the opportunity to live productive and secure lives.


We are seeking aStaff Attorney for our Housing Law Practice.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload representing low-income renters in housing cases including evictions, terminations from subsidized housing, conditions issues, and lease disputes;
  • Cover cases at the Skokie, Rolling Meadows, and Waukegan courthouses;
  • Conduct client intakes and provide advice and brief services;
  • Assist with off-site legal clinics in the community;
  • Conduct Know Your Rights presentations for the community on housing law;
  • Supervise and train law and undergraduate interns;
  • Collaborate with NSLAC's Domestic Violence Law Practice and Immigration Law Practice teams ensuring a holistic approach to client matters;
  • Perform other responsibilities needed to ensure NSLAC team's success.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree and Illinois law license required;
  • Understanding of and commitment to NSLAC's public interest law mission;
  • A demonstrated team-player with exemplary interpersonal skills;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced nonprofit.

Salary and Benefits:

  • $70,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with experience;
  • Hybrid work schedule;
  • Generous vacation policy including paid time off, sick leave, and paid holidays;
  • Employer paid Health, dental, vision and life insurance; 401(k) entry available upon hire.

Our offices are located convenient to a Metra train stop.
