The Shift Supervisor - RN provides clinical, operational, and supervisory leadership for assigned nursing home units during the PM shift. This position is accountable for ensuring the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of resident care while supporting nursing staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, and promoting quality outcomes. The Shift Supervisor serves as a clinical resource, problem solver, and decision-maker, collaborating with nursing leadership, interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families to ensure exceptional care and services.

Compensation and Benefits

• The starting pay ranges from $43.91 - $47.82 per hour based on experience and education.
• This role is full-time and in person, working 3pm – 11pm Monday - Friday or four 10 hour shifts of 1pm – 12am during the week.

What Qualifies You

• Associate’s degree in Nursing
• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin.
• Current BLS Certification
• More than 2 years of nursing experience
• More than one year of experience in progressively responsible nursing
• Proficient with electronic medical records and computerized documentation

Preferred

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Four or more years of nursing experience.
• Long‑term care or skilled nursing facility experience.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

Shift Supervisor – RN Responsibilities Clinical Leadership and Resident Care

• Coordinate resident care through implementation, review, and revision of individualized care plans.
• Assess residents when concerns or changes in condition are identified and ensure appropriate interventions are implemented.
• Ensure significant changes in resident condition are communicated promptly to physicians, residents, responsible parties, and appropriate team members.
• Assist with admission processes, including review of physician orders, assessments, documentation, and care planning.
• Provide direct resident care as needed, including assistance with personal care, transfers, dining services, call lights, and resident supervision.
• Respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies, falls, behavioral concerns, codes, and acute changes in resident condition.
• Lead and coordinate staff response during emergency situations.

Staffing and Operations

• Monitor staffing levels and resident care needs throughout the shift.
• Assist with staffing adjustments to ensure adequate coverage and safe resident care.
• Address staffing concerns, employee conflicts, and operational issues as they arise.
• Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure continuity of care and operational effectiveness across all units.
• Maintain regular rounding on assigned units to monitor care delivery, staff performance, and resident needs.

Quality, Regulatory Compliance, and Infection Prevention

• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, organizational policies, and professional standards of practice.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Complete audits and monitoring activities to support quality improvement initiatives and survey readiness.
• Escalate safety, compliance, and regulatory concerns to nursing leadership and administration as appropriate.
• Monitor quality indicators and support quality assurance activities.
• Assist with infection prevention and control activities, including surveillance, reporting, audits, outbreak response, and staff compliance with infection prevention practices.

Investigations and Problem Resolution

• Initiate and participate in investigations involving allegations of abuse, resident concerns, incidents, and other regulatory matters.
• Gather documentation, interview involved parties, identify contributing factors, and prepare investigative reports.
• Assist with resolution of resident, family, and staff concerns.
• Serve as a resource for conflict resolution and complex decision‑making.

Communication and Collaboration

• Maintain effective communication with residents, families, physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team members.
• Notify nursing leadership and administration of significant events, incidents, and operational concerns.
• Participate in leadership meetings, quality initiatives, and organizational improvement efforts.
• Support implementation of organizational policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.

Other Duties

• Complete floor nurse responsibilities as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.li>

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Provides direct supervision and work direction to nursing staff and assigned support staff during the PM shift.
• Responsible for assigning work, evaluating performance, coaching employees, completing performance evaluations, and administering corrective action as appropriate.
• Oversees approximately 60 staff members across assigned nursing home units.
• Provide clinical oversight and supervision of nursing staff during assigned shifts.
• Assign work, adjust workloads, and reallocate resources based on resident needs and acuity levels.
• Serve as a resource for nurses, nursing assistants, and other staff regarding clinical and operational concerns.
• Conduct coaching, mentoring, counseling, and disciplinary actions as appropriate.
• Complete performance evaluations and provide ongoing performance feedback.
• Monitor staff competency and support skills development through education, coaching, and training.
• Facilitate shift‑to‑shift communication and ensure effective handoff processes are maintained.
• Ensure staff have the equipment, supplies, and resources necessary to perform their duties safely and effectively.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and stooping throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier resident transfers when required.
• Ability to push, pull, reposition, and assist residents using appropriate equipment and safe patient handling techniques.
• Frequent use of computers, telephones, and other office technology.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements associated with documentation, resident care, and equipment operation.
• Visual acuity sufficient to assess resident conditions, review documentation, and safely perform nursing responsibilities.
• Ability to hear, communicate, and respond effectively in a healthcare environment.
