Senior Estimator – Marine & Heavy Civil Construction
Help Shape Landmark Infrastructure Across Western Canada
Our client is one of British Columbia’s most established and respected specialty contractors, with a decades-long reputation for delivering complex marine, deep foundation, industrial, and heavy civil infrastructure projects.
Family-owned and built on a legacy of technical excellence, this organization has grown into a diversified construction group with integrated capabilities spanning marine construction, deep foundations, industrial installation, fabrication, and specialty infrastructure services. Their work plays a critical role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that supports Western Canada’s ports, transportation networks, industrial facilities, and waterfront developments.
They are now seeking a Senior Estimator to join their Vancouver-based leadership team and play a key role in securing and shaping some of the region’s most technically challenging projects.
This is an opportunity for a senior estimating professional who thrives in complex environments and wants to have a direct impact on major infrastructure pursuits while mentoring the next generation of estimators.
The Opportunity
As Senior Estimator, you will lead the preparation of strategic, accurate, and highly competitive estimates for complex marine, piling, deep foundation, and heavy civil construction projects.
You will oversee multiple bids simultaneously, evaluate project risks and constructability, coordinate pricing strategies, and collaborate closely with operational leadership to deliver winning proposals.
This is more than a traditional estimating role — it is a strategic leadership position where your technical judgment, commercial insight, and industry expertise will directly influence project success across British Columbia.
What You’ll Be Doing
  • Lead full-cycle estimating for complex marine and heavy civil tenders
  • Review tender documentation and identify key project risks, constraints, and opportunities
  • Develop accurate cost estimates for lump sum, negotiated, design-build, and construction management projects
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and pricing analysis
  • Evaluate constructability and recommend contingency strategies
  • Coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure scope alignment
  • Support procurement and pre-construction planning
  • Mentor junior estimators and contribute to team development
  • Maintain estimating databases including labour rates, equipment costs, productivity metrics, and historical pricing
  • Collaborate with project operations teams to integrate lessons learned into future bid strategies
  • Ensure all estimating practices align with strong health, safety, and environmental standards
What We’re Looking For
Experience
  • 8+ years of senior estimating experience within:
    • Marine construction
    • Heavy civil infrastructure
    • Deep foundations / piling
    • Waterfront structures
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex tender submissions
  • Experience pricing technically challenging self-perform construction scopes
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Marine works
    • Piling systems
    • Deep foundations
    • Waterfront infrastructure
    • Labour productivity and production rates
  • Proficiency with:
    • Estimating software such as HeavyBid (or similar)
    • Advanced Excel
    • AutoCAD
    • MS Project
  • Strong drawing interpretation and quantity take-off capabilities
  • Knowledge of union agreements, regional wage structures, and Western Canadian construction costing
Education
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • P.Eng. designation is considered an asset
