Primary purpose:
Provides public health and product support services for the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NBS). Supports implementation, configuration, training, user adoption, and ongoing product support activities that enable CDC and jurisdictional partners to effectively use NBS for disease surveillance, case investigation, public health reporting, and interoperability. Serves as a liaison between public health programs, end users, and technical teams by translating operational needs into product improvements, supporting modernization activities, and promoting successful adoption of new capabilities.
A successful candidate will do the following:
  • Provide product support for NBS modernization initiatives, including implementation, user adoption, and operational readiness
  • Deliver end-user support, technical assistance, and troubleshooting for NBS users, public health programs, and jurisdictional partners
  • Develop, update, and deliver user guides, job aids, training materials, presentations, and other educational resources supporting NBS modernization
  • Plan and facilitate user training, onboarding, demonstrations, office hours, and knowledge-sharing sessions for CDC and jurisdictional stakeholders
  • Partner with Product Managers, Public Health Informaticians, engineers, and subject matter experts to gather, validate, and communicate user needs, business requirements, and product feedback
  • Participate in user acceptance testing (UAT), validation activities, regression testing, and release readiness efforts by documenting issues, validating enhancements, and providing user-centered feedback
  • Support software upgrades, new feature deployments, and implementation activities by coordinating communications, documentation, training, and user readiness
  • Assist with configuration support, workflow documentation, and business process improvements that enhance surveillance operations and user experience
  • Monitor user questions, enhancement requests, and support trends to identify opportunities for product improvements and continuous process improvements
  • Coordinate with CDC, jurisdictional partners, and multidisciplinary project teams to support successful implementation of modernization priorities
  • Support change management, stakeholder engagement, and communication activities that promote successful adoption of new NBS capabilities
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, knowledge articles, FAQs, and other operational documentation

Requirements
  • Master's degree in public health or other health science field and 4 years of relevant work experience or Bachelor's degree in public health or other health science field and 6 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with public health surveillance systems and a demonstrated understanding of key surveillance principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, public health professionals, and executive stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Manage deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to complete and maintain a federal-government Position of Public Trust Level 5 background investigation

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or state, local, tribal, or territorial (STLT) public health agencies
  • Experience supporting NBS implementation, configuration, software upgrades, or modernization initiatives
  • Familiarity with public health interoperability standards, including HL7, electronic laboratory reporting (ELR), electronic case reporting (eCR), or Message Mapping Guides (MMGs)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a distributed, team-oriented, and collaborative environment with federal partners and other federal contractors
