Introduction

Delaware's Attorney General, the State's chief\r\nlaw enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold\r\ncivil rights, safeguard families, fight fraud, and protect consumers in the\r\nFirst State.\r\n\r\nIn meeting this mission, Attorney General\r\nKathy Jennings is supported by teams of talented lawyers and staff in the\r\nCriminal, Civil, Family, Fraud and Consumer Protection, and Civil Rights and\r\nPublic Trust Divisions. Each of the more than 500 staff who work in the Office\r\nof the Attorney General are dedicated to serving all Delawareans with integrity\r\nand passion.\r\n\r\nDeputy Attorneys General, with critical\r\nsupport from criminal special investigators, victim service specialists,\r\nparaprofessionals, and administrative staff, prosecute criminal cases, enforce\r\nconsumer laws, provide counsel to state agencies, ensure the public's access to\r\nopen government, protect the abused, and much more.\r\n

Summary Statement

The Delaware Department of Justice (DOJ) is\r\nseeking an exceptional and highly motivated individual for the Family Division,\r\nto serve in the Child Support Unit in New Castle County as a Deputy Attorney\r\nGeneral. The primary responsibility for the Deputy Attorney General in this\r\nUnit is to represent the Division of Child Support Services in achieving the\r\nagency objectives of establishing paternity, establishing and enforcing orders\r\nfor support, the collection of support arrears, and providing general guidance and\r\nassistance to the Division of Child Support Services. This position has a\r\nhigh-volume caseload with daily litigation and appellate opportunities.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nA qualified candidate's\r\nstrengths will include the ability to work independently, evaluate cases, meet\r\ndeadlines, anticipate legal issues, and research accurately and effectively.\r\nCandidates must have the ability to learn and apply relevant laws, rules of\r\nevidence, and court rules. Candidates must also have excellent verbal and\r\nwritten communication skills. Related experience in Family Court is preferred.\r\nThe position will require some statewide travel to various meetings, trainings,\r\nand hearings. Membership in the Delaware Bar is not required, but applicant\r\nmust be eligible for limited admission pursuant to Supreme Court Rule 55.\r\nCandidates should demonstrate professionalism, integrity, commitment to public\r\nservice, and flexibility with casual/seasonal employment terms.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is a casual seasonal\r\nposition that is non-pension-eligible and does not include health care or other\r\nbenefits. This position is approved to\r\nwork up to 37.5 hours per week and is paid on an hourly basis for hours worked.\r\n

Essential Functions

The primary responsibility for\r\nthe Deputy Attorney General in this Unit is to represent the Division of Child\r\nSupport Services in achieving the agency objectives of establishing paternity,\r\nestablishing and enforcing orders for support, the collection of support\r\narrears, and providing general guidance and assistance to the Division of Child\r\nSupport Services. This position has a high-volume caseload with daily\r\nlitigation and appellate opportunities. The DAG will appear in Family Court on\r\nbehalf of the Division, prepare legal filings and briefs, conduct legal\r\nresearch, negotiate settlements, manage complex family law matters, and\r\ncollaborate with agency staff to achieve the Division's mission.\r\n

Job Requirements

The most qualified candidates\r\nhave some prior criminal and general counsel experience. The DAG should be\r\nable to take a proactive approach in assisting DATE, by demonstrating the\r\nability to identify potential issues and addressing such issues to enable DATE\r\nto operate effectively. The DAG should\r\nbe able to work independently, meet deadlines, communicate clearly with DOJ\r\nleadership and DATE, and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough\r\nknowledge of relevant laws and court rules.\r\nMembership in the Delaware Bar is required.\r\n
