Position Summary

NCCM Company is seeking a mechanically inclined, detail-oriented Industrial Roll Inspection & Refurbishment Technician to support the inspection and rebuilding of industrial nonwoven rolls.

NCCM manufactures new rolls using new shafts and nonwoven coverings and refurbishes used rolls returned by customers. In this position, you will help disassemble returned rolls, remove worn nonwoven coverings, bearings, housings, and related components, and prepare the shafts and components for inspection. You will clean, measure, and inspect each component against technical drawings and specified tolerances to determine whether repair or replacement work is required.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position that combines mechanical disassembly, precision measurement, quality inspection, documentation, and the use of industrial tools and equipment. Previous experience is preferred, but NCCM is willing to train a dependable candidate who has strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Receive and visually inspect industrial rolls returned by customers.
  • Review work orders, technical drawings, and customer requirements before beginning the inspection process.
  • Safely remove worn nonwoven roll coverings using circular saws and other approved tools.
  • Remove bearings, housings, and related components using bearing pullers, air tools, hand tools, and other equipment.
  • Clean shafts, bearings, housings, and other components before inspection.
  • Inspect roll shafts and components for wear, damage, corrosion, and other conditions that may affect performance.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, dimensional specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Compare inspection measurements with drawing requirements and determine whether components meet acceptable tolerances.
  • Identify and document components requiring repair, replacement, or additional evaluation.
  • Accurately record measurements and inspection findings on the appropriate inspection forms.
  • Help determine the scope of work required to refurbish each roll.
  • Communicate inspection results and repair recommendations to supervisors and other production team members.
  • Work with production personnel to help keep customer orders and shipments on schedule.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on inspection tools, machinery, and related equipment.
  • Safely operate forklifts, power tools, air tools, and material-handling equipment as required.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures whenever equipment is being serviced or is unsafe to operate.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company policies, standard operating procedures, quality requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with industrial machinery and components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and dimensional tolerances.
  • Ability to understand and apply basic GD&T concepts.
  • Ability to accurately use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to safely use circular saws, bearing pullers, drills, air tools, hand tools, and related equipment.
  • Ability to inspect components, evaluate measurements, and identify potential repair needs.
  • Ability to perform basic shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, and measurement conversions.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to enter or document inspection information.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Dependable attendance and the ability to complete work according to production schedules.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift or willingness to complete company-provided training.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, mechanical assembly, industrial maintenance, machining, quality inspection, equipment repair, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience reading technical drawings and using precision measuring instruments is preferred.
  • NCCM is willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates mechanical ability, dependability, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

While performing the essential duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Sit or stand for periods of up to one hour at a time.
  • Use hands and arms to handle tools, measuring instruments, machinery, and industrial components.
  • Reach, bend, stoop, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
  • Regularly lift and carry materials or components weighing at least 50 pounds.
  • Perform physical labor in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and follow all established safety procedures.
