Job description
Job Summary:
The Director of Certification and Credentialing Services is responsible for developing, planning, and implementing programs related to certification and credentialing, recertification and renewal, the Graduate Student Application (GSA), and other university engagement in accordance with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the Center for Credentialing & Education (CCE) policies, processes, and procedures. This position also oversees and administers credential development and maintenance to include new credentials and certifications, microcredentials, and certification specialties. This position is responsible for upholding the standards that define and advance the professional identity of counselors by providing and maintaining nationally recognized certifications for the counseling profession. The position enforces policies relevant to certification and helps certificants continue to meet the required certification standards, offering multiple status options to meet the needs of the growing population of National Certified Counselors (NCCs). The position is responsible for overall compliance to accreditation standards and best practices in certification and credentialing. The position is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of the organization's non-counseling-specific credentials, including development and application of credentialing and recredentialing policies, standards, and procedures. In addition, the position directs and leads the team responsible for these programs in accordance with NBCC and CCE policies, processes, and procedures. The Director works with the Vice President in strategic planning in accordance with the missions of NBCC and CCE.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads strategic planning activities for the department in conjunction with the Vice President.
- Directs and oversees processes and workflow for NBCC certification, CCE credentialing, recertification and renewal, GSA, and university engagement operations. Identifies issues of concern, determines authority to resolve, and brings recommendations to the Vice President if appropriate.
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of staff; gives timely feedback; and recommends personnel actions, such as hiring, training, rewarding, disciplining, and terminating staff.
- Reviews current departmental policy and procedures on an ongoing basis. Identifies needs for change, develops recommended modifications, and works with the Vice President to attain approval. Implements approved changes.
- Manages work with legal counsel on issues related to certification or credentialing matters.
- Provides reports for leadership, Board of Directors, and others as requested and authorized.
- Determines if certification and credentialing standards are met for each certificant and/or credential holder or applicant.
- Oversees and administers credential and microcredential development (both new credentials and revitalizing existing credentials) to include working with the Vice President and CEO to identify subject matter experts (SMEs); planning meeting times; drafting eligibility policies; and working with the Executive team to get those finalized, approved, and published.
- Reviews and maintains accurate records for providing recommendations to the Vice President for appeal decision matters and communicating decisions to appellants.
- Acts as resource for staff on all departmental matters.
- Collaborates with Business Development Department on any contractual obligations or marketing efforts as assigned.
- Leads collaboration with CCE division on examination administration for all certification and credentialing examinations.
- Works collaboratively with Communications Department to ensure clarity for all communications and online information for our stakeholders.
- Leads efforts to obtain or maintain accreditation for qualifying certifications and credentials.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

Ability to see an issue and use objective analysis and evaluation in order to form a judgment.
- Project Management - Ability to work on projects with firm deadlines, project plans, and budgets.
- Technical Knowledge - Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products. Working knowledge of desktop publishing software.
Required Education/Experience:
- Master's degree in counseling.
- 5 years' supervisory-related experience.
- National Certified Counselor (NCC) required.
- Combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, Thoughtspan, Power BI.
- Fully Remote
- May require overnight travel.
