Job description

Syntech is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and results-driven Engineering Project Manager to lead the planning, coordination, and execution of engineering initiatives across software, hardware, infrastructure, and product development teams.

The Engineering Project Manager serves as a key facilitator between Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Operations, and Executive Leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, aligned with business priorities, and executed with a high degree of visibility and accountability.

This role combines traditional project management responsibilities with engineering coordination, roadmap management, stakeholder communication, and process improvement. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, skilled organizer, and proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively balance multiple priorities across a diverse portfolio of engineering efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Project Leadership

  • Lead engineering projects through all phases of the project lifecycle from planning through deployment and post-release review.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, milestones, budgets, resource forecasts, and delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate activities across software, embedded systems, quality assurance, infrastructure, and operations teams.
  • Facilitate project kickoff meetings and establish clear goals, deliverables, and success criteria.
  • Monitor progress and drive projects to successful completion.

Roadmap & Portfolio Management

  • Maintain visibility into active projects, strategic initiatives, and engineering roadmaps.
  • Coordinate dependencies across teams and departments.
  • Support quarterly planning and prioritization activities.
  • Assist leadership in evaluating project feasibility, resource requirements, schedules, and risks.
  • Track project performance against established objectives and key milestones.

Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project status, risks, and delivery updates.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between Engineering, Product, Sales, Marketing, Customer Support, Operations, and Executive Leadership.
  • Prepare project dashboards, status reports, and executive-level presentations.
  • Ensure stakeholder expectations are aligned with project priorities, scope, and delivery commitments.

Risk & Issue Management

  • Identify, document, and proactively manage project risks, issues, blockers, and dependencies.
  • Coordinate mitigation plans and resolution efforts with project teams.
  • Escalate significant concerns to management with recommended actions and recovery plans.
  • Drive accountability for project commitments and action items.

Process Improvement & Governance

  • Establish and promote consistent project management practices across engineering teams.
  • Facilitate effective project meetings with structured agendas, clear ownership, and actionable outcomes.
  • Maintain project documentation, dashboards, status reports, decision logs, and other project artifacts.
  • Recommend improvements to planning processes, communication workflows, and engineering operations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience managing technology, engineering, software, or product development projects.
  • Requires a consistent and dependable work history, ideally reflecting 3-5 years of tenure with each previous employer.
  • Strong understanding of software development and engineering delivery processes.
  • Exceptional organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Experience creating project schedules, dashboards, status reports, and executive summaries.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, Scrum Master, or other project management certification.
  • Experience working with cross-functional engineering organizations.
  • Experience supporting hardware, embedded systems, payment systems, fuel management, fleet management, or industrial technology products.
  • Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid project management methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating planning, roadmap development, and portfolio management activities.
