Position Details
- Location: Virginia-Highland Elementary School
- Schedule: Monday-Friday
- Hours: 1:30 PM - 5:30 PM (occasionally until 6:00 PM)
- Start Date for Training: July 27, 2026
- First Day of School: August 3, 2026
- Pay: $15-$28 per hour based on education, experience, and certifications
Employment Requirements
- Experience working with elementary-aged children preferred
- CPR/First Aid Certification Required (training available)
- Clear Background Check Required
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities
- Reliable transportation
- Strong communication and teamwork skills

My After School Program – Virginia-Highland Elementary
The Classroom Teacher plays an important role in creating a safe, engaging, and enriching after-school experience for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Teachers work as part of a team to support student success while maintaining a positive, professional environment for children, families, school staff, and fellow team members.

Primary
ResponsibilitiesStudent Supervision & Safety
- Maintain active supervision of students at all times
- Keep student safety and well-being as the highest priority
- Enforce program rules, procedures, and safety expectations
- Address student conflicts and behavioral concerns appropriately
- Create plans and supports for students with special needs or concerns
- Ensure students follow program expectations and conduct themselves appropriately
Academic Support
- Assist students with homework, reading, writing, and math assignments
- Promote academic success by encouraging effort, responsibility, and growth
- Teach age-appropriate skills that support academic achievement
- Provide guidance and motivation to help students complete assigned tasks
Activity Planning & Implementation
- Plan, prepare, and lead age-appropriate lessons and activities
- Prepare materials and supplies needed for activities and projects
- Implement activities that support social, emotional, physical, and academic development
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to develop enrichment activities and programming
- Create a welcoming and engaging environment where students can learn and have fun
Student Relationships
- Build positive relationships with students through encouragement, consistency, and respect
- Serve as a positive role model demonstrating professionalism, fairness, and good sportsmanship
- Support the social and emotional growth of students
- Create an environment where all students feel welcomed, valued, and included
Parent & Team Communication
- Develop positive relationships with parents and families
- Communicate student successes and concerns professionally
- Partner with Directors when addressing student or parent concerns
- Participate in team meetings, training, and program planning
- Maintain positive working relationships with school administration, school staff, and program team members
Program Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment
- Follow all health, safety, and operating procedures
- Assist with program setup, cleanup, and daily operations
- Support the overall success of the program through teamwork and flexibility
