Manufacturing Engineer – Barrel Machining

Location: Kalamazoo, MI
Work Arrangement: Onsite (only USC and Green Card Holders)

Rate: $55/hr

Executive Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to support barrel machining operations in Kalamazoo, MI. This role will focus on Mazatrol programming, tooling and manufacturing drawing updates, process documentation, changeover reduction, preventive maintenance, and production support.

The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate with production, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve efficiency, capacity, repeatability, and overall equipment performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and optimize Mazatrol programs for barrel machining operations.
• Support mill, lathe, and mill-turn machining equipment.
• Update tooling prints and manufacturing drawings based on current production requirements and approved changes.
• Maintain and revise Solumina process instructions, routings, and manufacturing documentation.
• Identify and implement changeover-reduction opportunities to improve uptime and throughput.
• Develop and support a preventive maintenance program for equipment, tooling, and critical process elements.
• Partner with production, quality, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues.
• Standardize manufacturing methods to improve repeatability, reduce variation, and support operator training.
• Support engineering and process changes while ensuring documentation accuracy and shop-floor readiness.
• Drive continuous improvements in manufacturing efficiency, capacity, and process reliability.

Core Deliverables

• Production-ready Mazatrol programs.
• Updated and controlled tooling prints and manufacturing drawings.
• Current Solumina process instructions and routings.
• Changeover-reduction action plans and implemented improvements.
• Preventive maintenance structure, task definitions, and rollout support.
• Ongoing process troubleshooting and manufacturing-efficiency improvements.

Required Skills and Experience

• Experience operating or supporting mill, lathe, and mill-turn machining equipment.
• Working knowledge of Mazatrol programming.
• Experience updating tooling drawings, manufacturing prints, and shop-floor documentation.
• Familiarity with Enovia or another product lifecycle management system.
• Familiarity with Solumina or a similar manufacturing execution or process-documentation system.
• Knowledge of setup reduction and lean manufacturing principles.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-mix production environment.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Willingness and ability to work onsite in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
