Role Description The Well Site Geologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Casper, WY, responsible for providing real-time geological support during drilling operations. This position includes monitoring and evaluating cuttings and mud logs, preparing detailed daily and end-of-well reports, and communicating stratigraphic and lithologic interpretations to drilling and operations teams. The role involves coordinating closely with directional drillers for geosteering decisions, ensuring wellbore placement meets reservoir and safety objectives. Day-to-day tasks also include maintaining accurate geological records, adhering to company and regulatory standards, and supporting safe and efficient field operations. The Well Site Geologist will collaborate with clients and colleagues in the field to deliver timely, data-driven recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in field work and onsite geological operations, including working safely in remote and demanding environments.
  • Proficiency in logging activities, such as cuttings description, mud logging interpretation, and preparation of detailed geological logs.
  • Skills in geological mapping and stratigraphic interpretation to support geosteering and well placement decisions.
  • Familiarity with geophysics and integration of geophysical data into geological models for drilling support.
  • Knowledge of drilling operations and terminology, with the ability to collaborate effectively with drilling and directional teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a closely related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including clear written reporting and concise verbal updates.
  • Ability to work extended shifts on site, maintain attention to detail under time pressure, and follow safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Experience with geosteering software, subsurface modeling tools, and digital data recording systems is beneficial.
