Superintendent -HVAC

Position Overview

As Superintendent - HVAC, you'll lead installation, startup, and maintenance of refrigeration systems on commercial projects, overseeing technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of HVACR equipment. Focus on refrigerant handling, system charging, and performance optimization. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise refrigeration system installation, piping, controls, and equipment setup (e.g., chillers, condensers, evaporators).
  • Manage crew scheduling, refrigerant recovery/charging, and leak detection/testing.
  • Enforce EPA regulations, safety protocols, and hazard assessments for refrigerant work.
  • Coordinate with other trades and project teams for integration and commissioning.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration issues, perform preventive maintenance, and document compliance.
  • Lead startups, functional testing, and client handovers.
  • Mentor technicians on refrigerant handling, safety, and emerging tech.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Yes – Lead refrigeration technicians; oversee training, performance, EPA compliance, and safety.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: 7+ years in commercial refrigeration/HVACR, including 3+ years supervisory; EPA 608 certification required.
  • Education: High school/GED; technical certification in refrigeration preferred.
  • Physical Demands: Field-based; lift 50+ lbs, climb/work at heights, handle refrigerants.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Sites with refrigerant hazards; strict PPE/OSHA/EPA adherence—safety non-negotiable.

Required Skills

  • Refrigeration systems, EPA refrigerant handling, leak detection/charging.
  • Team supervision, commissioning, safety/regulatory compliance.
  • Troubleshooting, blueprint reading, documentation.
