We are currently recruiting for a conscientious and detail-oriented Transit System Maintenance Worker (Route Custodian) to join the Facilities Maintenance Division in Lakewood. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone with a solid work history, a track record for reliability and a reputation for providing good customer service. Some of the regular duties in this position will include: Following an assigned route to perform custodial work. Ensuring cleanliness at bus shelters, seating areas at bus stops and transit centers, emptying trash cans, washing windows, walls, and restrooms and replenishing supplies.

Conducting an array of custodial work in and around Pierce Transit buildings and adjacent grounds. If you're not currently living in the Lakewood-area, that's not a problem. We may be able to help with reimbursing up to $2,500 in moving expenses for those who physically relocate their primary residence to the Pierce/King/Thurston County area (substantiated with receipts).

All employees of Pierce Transit are required to participate in the Washington State Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Pierce Transit offers two Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plans to choose from, PERS2 and PERS3, as well as a matching program for 457 deferred compensation. Employees are not covered under the Social Security System except for a 1.45% payment for Medicare

Pierce Transit provides an ORCA Card benefit for each employee and a family member. This benefit provides free access to service on Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Seattle Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, King County Water Taxi and Kitsap Foot Ferry. Shift differential: Employees are eligible for differential pay per the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local #758 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

PAID LEAVE: Full-time Pierce Transit employees are eligible to receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, 12 days of sick leave, 12 vacation days per year, and the ability to earn up to 2 Wellness Days by participating in a qualifying wellness activity and the annual survey. Part-time employees, receive pro-rated leave, to include sick leave, vacation, personal holiday and holiday pay. Vacation leave accrual rates increase per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Essential Functions The following functions are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Cleaning seating areas at bus stops and transit centers, emptying trash cans, washing windows, walls, and restrooms and replenishing supplies; Sweeping, mopping, and polishing floors; Operating a pressure washer to clean structures, pavement and equipment; Cleaning walkways and grounds adjacent to assigned buildings; Ensuring that rubbish, weeds and waste paper are removed; Sweeping parking lots; shoveling snow and spreading sand in parking lots and transit centers; Cleaning shelters, and as needed preparing and providing touch up painting; Cleaning work areas and equipment after completion of job assignment and moving furniture and equipment as requested.

Has regular and predictable attendance. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of experience performing the duties of laborer or custodian or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver license with acceptable driving record throughout employment. Knowledge of: the care and use of mops, brooms, scrub brushes, power sweepers and scrubbers, dusters, vacuum cleaners and floor polishers; the use of cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, strippers, polishes, waxes, and graffiti removers. Ability to: work well alone and in a team environment; understand and follow oral or written instructions; learn all equipment operations; perform computerized work order methods and procedures; pass a job related examination; drive all job related vehicles and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license.
