Midtown Elevator is a rapidly growing company that has been serving the New York metropolitan area since 1981- taking pride and joy in what we do for 45 years. We are seeking a skilled and dependable Elevator Service Technician to join our expanding field operations team.

Position Overview

The Elevator Service Technician will be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing elevator equipment and associated systems. This position plays an important role in ensuring that all equipment functions safely, efficiently, and in accordance with New York State requirements, local regulations, and OSHA guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and correct electrical, mechanical, traction, and hydraulic issues affecting elevator systems
  • Perform routine maintenance, equipment adjustments, and preventive service
  • Complete required safety inspections in accordance with applicable NYC Department of Buildings and New York State standards
  • Conduct annual and periodic testing of safety components and confirm that all devices operate properly
  • Respond to regular and emergency service requests
  • Participate in the company’s rotating on-call schedule
  • Document completed work through service reports, inspection records, maintenance logs, and compliance paperwork
  • Assess equipment conditions and provide recommendations for repairs, upgrades, modernization, or replacement
  • Perform all work in accordance with company procedures, safety policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable union requirements
  • Communicate professionally with customers and provide clear updates regarding service findings, repairs, and equipment status
  • Maintain positive, long-term relationships with building owners, managers, and other customers
Required Qualifications - Education and Licensing
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active New York State or New York City Elevator Mechanic License
  • CET certification is preferred, unless the applicable jurisdiction does not require it
Experience and Technical Knowledge
  • Minimum of five years of hands-on experience in elevator maintenance, repair, or service
  • Strong knowledge of traction and hydraulic elevator equipment
  • Ability to understand and use electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
  • Experience operating diagnostic instruments, electrical testing devices, hand tools, and power tools
  • Familiarity with elevator controllers manufactured by Otis, Schindler, TK, Dover, or comparable manufacturers is strongly preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, documentation, and customer-service skills
Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

  • Climb ladders and safely perform work at elevated locations
  • Enter and work in elevator shafts, pits, machine rooms, and confined areas
  • Regularly lift and carry items weighing 75 pounds or more
  • Assist with moving equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 200 pounds
  • Work around active mechanical equipment
  • Bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, and remain on your feet for extended periods
Work Environment

Work assignments may take place in commercial buildings, construction areas, mechanical rooms, elevator pits, shafts, and machine rooms. Employees may encounter dust, grease, loud noise, limited spaces, and significant variations in temperature.

The role may require overtime, emergency response, and availability outside of standard business hours.
