Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate, full-time opportunity for a Maintenance Technician, located at the Toledo, Ohio facility, 3332 St. Lawrence Drive, Toledo, OH 43605.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at our sugar packaging facility in Toledo, Ohio. The ideal candidate will be a versatile professional with expertise in mechanical, electrical, fabrication, and welding tasks. This role is critical to ensuring the smooth operation of our production equipment and facility systems, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high safety and quality standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery, conveyors, packaging equipment, and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including motors, control panels, and PLCs, etc.
  • Execute mechanical repairs on equipment, such as pumps, gearboxes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
  • Fabricate and modify components as needed to improve equipment performance or replace worn parts
  • Perform welding tasks (MIG, TIG, or stick) to repair or construct metal structures and equipment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and requirements (GMP and OSHA)
  • Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment performance
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders and inventory of spare parts
  • Maintain existing equipment along with facility upgrades and installation of new equipment as needed

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum 5 years industrial electrical and mechanical experience, preferably packaging / production
  • Industrial experience, including knowledge in motor control, relay logic, PLC logic and computer based motor and process control system
  • Demonstrated skills in fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG, or stick).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in hot and cold environments

KEY COMPETENCIES
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Availability for overtime, and on-call duties as needed
  • Demonstrated personal leadership and positive can-do attitude
  • Familiarity with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP)
  • Use of internet to research, order and track parts for delivery
  • Communicate issues and solutions with every shift to ensure smooth hand off
  • Provides model behavior to demonstrate corporate value
  • Leading the self by demonstrating ethics and integrity, displaying drive and purpose, demonstrated capability to learn, managing self, increasing self-awareness
