Job description

Washington College is seeking an arts professional to design and implement a sophisticated, diverse program of contemporary, historical, and student art exhibitions in the College’s Kohl Gallery alongside related lectures, artist talks, and other events. The Director and Curator will also teach courses within their areas of expertise, whether Studio Art, Art History, or Arts Administration. Gallery exhibitions and events should cultivate Kohl Gallery’s role as a vital visual arts center and complement the College’s curriculum across a range of disciplines. Essential Functions:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee installation of all Kohl Gallery exhibitions;
  • Teach two courses per academic year in the Director’s areas of expertise;
  • Recruit and collaborate with artists, guest curators, and outside partners, as well as Washington College faculty;
  • Facilitate Studio Art majors’ year-long Senior Capstone Experience and oversee student exhibitions;
  • Administer student interns and employees;
  • Manage budgetary and day-to-day operations of the gallery;
  • Engage in outreach to key constituencies on and off campus;
  • Identify and cultivate individual donors and foundation support.

Qualifications :

  • Required:
    • A Master’s Degree in Studio Art, Art History, or a related field;
    • One to three years’ experience in a gallery, museum, or other comparable arts setting.
  • Preferred:
    • MFA in Studio Art or PhD in Art History or a related field;
    • Experience working in an academic gallery setting;
    • Experience teaching at the college level.

Salary: $60k - 65k
