Job Title: Medical Assistant (M-F 8:30am - 5:00pm)

Location: Mission Valley

Salary Range: $24.00 – $27.00 (Based on experience)

Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will provide essential support to our healthcare professionals while ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience. The ideal candidate will be skilled in both clinical and administrative tasks, with a passion for helping others.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparation of patient exam rooms and supplies on a daily basis.
  • Keep exam rooms clean and ready for patients before and after each visit in accordance with Infection Control Protocols.
  • Clean/Sterilize instruments daily.
  • Prepare each patient’s chart for the visit daily (to include scanning of all previous medical records including prior provider visits, hospitalizations, recent laboratory and diagnostic tests orders, all specialty consultation reports)
  • Room patients and prep them for provider exam.
  • Obtain and document vital signs accurately.
  • Documents allergies, medical history of patient and family, mental health/substance use history of patient and family, family/social/cultural characteristics, behaviors affecting health, social functioning.
  • Reviews, updates and documents medications and doses.
  • Instruct patients regarding indicated medical procedures and obtain consent as needed.
  • Assist with procedures, pap smears, colposcopies, and other exams as needed. Act as chaperone for patient as appropriate.
  • Performs lab procedures, including venipuncture and blood draws, HCT, urines, and cultures as necessary to peak of scope.
  • Processing specimens from patient visits for pick up from lab processing vendors with accurate and safe handling.
  • Order and follow-up on genetic testing and tumor profiling.
  • Administer standing orders as relevant to the patient’s visit to include bladder challenges, staple removals, JP drain removals, removal of catheters, etc. to peak of scope.
  • Ensures that all provider orders (laboratory, diagnostic and referrals) are entered in electronic health record accurately with appropriate coding.
  • Responsible for daily review and completion of tasks assigned in EMR system. Also, responsible to cover for other MA team members as needed.
  • Daily handling of voicemails and emails to assure that all items are addressed regardless of subject.
  • Responsible daily for processing incoming faxes into patient charts as they apply to the back office and patient care.
  • Provides patients with educational/referral resources consistent with the treatment plan.
  • Process referrals and obtain authorizations for patients as necessary.
  • Assist with follow-up for all patients, under the direction of the provider.
  • Write patient letters and work releases as directed by provider.
  • Review paperwork in charts and encounter forms for completeness and accuracy. Keep accurate records in EMR.
  • Assure that biohazard waste is handled and disposed of appropriately. Red bags are to be properly disposed of weekly and/or more frequently as needed.
  • Participate in in-service trainings as directed by management
  • Assist in all areas of the clinic as directed by supervisor.
  • Place orders for supplies as needed in the back office. Responsible for restocking of supply area in a neat and tidy manner as supplies arrive.
  • Work as a team member and assist other staff as deemed appropriate by the Provider or Management.
  • Entry of data into EMR to maintain office records, patient records, make appointments for follow-up, to include direct referrals to specialists as needed.
  • If applicable, translate between the physician and the patient by explaining treatments or special instructions to be followed by the patient. Translations must be verbatim to what has been stated by the physician, unless instructed otherwise.
  • Assist in training of new medical assistants as directed by Management.
  • Calls patients as directed by provider and documents telephone encounter in electronic health record
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant program.
  • GYN experience preferred
  • BLS Certification preferred.
  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
