Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Police Officer role based in Merkel, TX. The Police Officer is responsible for patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, and enforcing local, state, and federal laws. Daily tasks include conducting traffic stops, issuing citations, preparing incident and arrest reports, and performing routine security checks. The role involves engaging with community members, participating in crime prevention initiatives, and providing assistance at public events. The Police Officer will also conduct preliminary investigations, secure and document evidence, collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, and appear in court as needed.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge and practical understanding of Law Enforcement and Police procedures.
  • Ability to conduct Criminal Investigations, including interviewing, report writing, and case documentation.
  • Skills in handling, preserving, and documenting Evidence in accordance with legal and departmental standards.
  • Previous experience as Police Officers or comparable public safety roles is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; advanced education in criminal justice or related field is a plus.
  • Completion of a state-approved police academy and eligibility for Texas peace officer licensing (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Physical fitness sufficient to perform patrol, emergency response, and related duties; ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to unbiased, community-focused policing.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to pass background checks, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
