Job description

The Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector must read and interpret design drawings, specifications, shop drawings and submittals to ensure contractor compliance with construction contracts. They work on construction sites to inspect and monitor progress and verify work aligns with approved plans & specs, Any deviations from codes or plans are addressed with the contractors for correction or further review as required.

The Inspectors keep detailed daily logs of inspections and prepare written reports summarizing findings, actions taken, and project progress. Depending upon the type of building under construction, they may examine various mechanical systems, including plumbing and HVAC, for proper installation, function, and adherence to plans and code requirements.

They perform inspection of materials and workmanship involved in the construction, renovation or alteration of structures. Inspectors will provide information to the Project Manager so MEC can assist property owners, contractors, and design professionals in resolving quality of work or compliance issues and rectify problems. Inspectors document the results of the inspection in both written and photographic form and communicate them to the Project Manager or designated Lead Inspector.

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· System Inspections: Inspect plumbing, piping, drainage, HVACR equipment, ventilation, fire protection and related building systems to ensure safety, functionality, and code compliance.

· Plan Verification: Review construction blueprints, shop drawings, and submittals to ensure proposed installations match project specifications and local codes.

· Site Monitoring: Conduct routine on-site walkthroughs during various stages of construction to verify the quality of materials and workmanship.

· Testing & Commissioning: Witness and document critical testing procedures, including pressure tests, leak tests, system start-ups, and air-balancing.

· Deficiency Management: Demonstrate the ability to resolve issues and provide viable alternatives to ensure project compliance. Identify non-conformance or deviations from plans and issue corrective action directive; monitor the site until corrective actions are completed.

· Technical Knowledge: Strong, working knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC), International Mechanical/Plumbing Codes, and local PA regulations.

· Communication/Documentation: Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally. Maintain accurate daily logs, photographic records, and punch lists using project management software. Ability to perform required computations, cost estimates, and calculations.

· Team Management: Ability to collaborate in a team to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

· Technical Proficiency: Ability to work independently and make technical decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (specifically Outlook, Word and Excel), BlueBeam, cloud-based tools such as Box or OneDrive. Proficient with Windows PCs and with iPad/Tablet usage for daily tasks.
