Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Site Foreman to lead and supervise excavation and earthworks projects. The successful candidate will manage crews and equipment, ensure safe and efficient operations, and deliver projects on schedule while maintaining high quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily excavation, trenching, grading, and earthworks operations
  • Coordinate operators, laborers, truck drivers, and subcontractors
  • Plan and execute work involving utilities, drainage, foundations, and site preparation
  • Ensure safe operation of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, rollers, and skid steers
  • Read and interpret site plans, utility drawings, and grades
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including trench safety and shoring systems
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and site safety inspections
  • Schedule work activities and manage productivity
  • Order materials and coordinate deliveries
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and clients
  • Identify and resolve site challenges related to ground conditions, utilities, and access

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Site Foreman or Supervisor in excavation or civil construction
  • Extensive hands-on experience operating and supervising heavy equipment (excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, rollers, compactors, skid steers)
  • Strong knowledge of earthworks, trenching, shoring, and underground services
  • Ability to read and set out grades, levels, and elevations
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Thorough understanding of excavation safety regulations and best practices
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Relevant trade qualification or civil construction certification (preferred)
  • Knowing and understanding the requirements of the OHSA
  • Knowing, understanding, communicating and ensuring compliance with the OHSA, and company safety policies and procedures
  • Facilitate mandatory safety tool box meetings
  • Ensuring completion of initial safety and hazard assessments
  • Participating in safety/incident investigations
  • Ensuring that vehicle and equipment checks are carried out
