Run out of The Chandler Center, this program serves not only Manchester School District high school students, but also undergraduate students interested in gaining real-world experience in skills such as lesson plan creation, mentorship, college advising, and teaching. Currently, the program supports 120 high school students and 20 advisors (undergraduates or recent graduates).

This is a part-time position of up to 20 hours per week including working 1 Saturday per month (on campus) from roughly 9:30am-3:30pm. Hours are flexible and most work can be completed remotely. The main office and location is SNHU, 2500 North River Road, Manchester, NH.

  • Communicate with and engage a growing community of students, advisors, and alums
  • Provide logistical support, such as resource management, for the Director on CB Saturdays and other major Breakthrough Manchester events
  • Collaborate consistently with the Director, as well as relevant community members, in order to best support students and advisors
  • Encourage, develop, and sustain student-led initiatives such as yearbook, peer-tutoring, and class office
  • Supervise advisors and scholars for community events, student-led initiatives, and other programming opportunities

Minimum qualifications:

  • Major in Education or a related field
  • Specialized knowledge: Understanding the college application process and the challenges facing first-generation and underrepresented students.
  • Skills: Must be able to work and collaborate well with high school and college students and professionals in both Secondary and Higher Education Institutions.
  • Abilities: Must have superior communication and collaboration skills. This includes not only successfully utilizing digital mediums and platforms to support a community of high school and college students, but also the ability to lead in-person workshops and community events for those same populations.
  • Other characteristics, such as personal characteristics: An engaging personality, self-motivation, and self-direction are essential. In addition, the individual must be detail-oriented and adept at planning and managing events. Innovation and creativity are also a necessary characteristic of a successful program assistant.

Learning outcomes:

  • Develop and facilitate engaging sessions based on proven pedagogy as a confident public speaker
  • Communicate effectively to support the growth of young people while collaborating on a team
  • Cultivate and apply a strong understanding of equity and belonging in education and beyond
  • Solve complex problems through critical-thinking, networking, and resource management

Compensation:
