About the Agency: The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) is the state's lead economic and community development agency. MDA recruits new companies to Mississippi, helps existing companies expand and provides support to foster growth and new opportunities in a variety of areas, including energy, small and minority business, trade, film, retiree recruitment and more. Additionally, MDA attracts millions of visitors to the state each year through Visit Mississippi, the tourism division of the agency. MDA also supports pass-through funding and provides support for a variety of grant programs and non-profits, such as Innovate Mississippi and Mississippi Main Street Association.
About the Position: This is a time-limited position (NS-14). The Accountant II provides financial support for the Community Incentives Division and performs accounting-related duties that require a working knowledge of accounting principles, procedures, and state financial systems. This position is responsible for processing requests for cash, entering repayments, reconciling financial transactions associated with subrecipient expenditures, and reviewing revenue received from HUD. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to complete work in a timely and efficient manner. The Accountant II also communicates with staff and stakeholders regarding expense policies, procedures, and reimbursement timelines, and provides guidance and support as needed. Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:• Review and enter subrecipient agreements and requests for cash in Mississippi's Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC).• Review and process repayments in MAGIC.• Review and update monthly reports.• Work with the Department of Finance and Administration to resolve MAGIC issues.• Review and enter quarterly financial information in the Disaster Recovery Grant Reporting (DRGR) system.• Pull MicroStrategy performance reports from the DRGR system.• Monitor the Disaster Recovery Division public email account and service center line.• Assist the Disaster Recovery Division Finance Manager with reconciling monthly reports between DRGR and MAGIC.• Scan and file all Disaster Recovery financial documents.• Prepare quarterly performance letters for Congress.• Work in OnBase, the Disaster Recovery Division's system of record.• Assist with requests for information from program managers, applicants, and the general public.• Perform other duties as assigned.
What you'll need to be Successful: The successful candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, sound accounting knowledge, and the ability to work accurately with financial systems such as Mississippi's Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC), Disaster Recovery Grant Reporting (DRGR), and OnBase. The candidate should be organized, dependable, and able to meet recurring deadlines while supporting grant compliance, reconciliations, reporting, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.• Awareness or understanding of general accounting principles.• Familiarity with accounts payable, including processing payments and refund checks.• Working knowledge of MAGIC.• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. Hiring agency prefers:• Experience with report reconciliation.
