About the role

Magic Mechanical is a new residential plumbing company in Orange County built on a simple premise: do the work right, communicate honestly, and take care of the customer. We are hiring an experienced service plumber to run their own calls from day one. You will diagnose, quote from our flat-rate book, and complete residential service and repair work independently, with a master plumber behind you for the heavy stuff and a company that actually documents how things should be done.

This is a founding-team position. Our first technicians set the standard everyone after them is trained to, and our leads and managers will come from this group.

What you will do

• Run residential service calls independently: drain clearing, fixture repair and replacement, water heaters, supply and waste line repairs, gas lines, leak diagnosis
• Diagnose accurately and present options, with no commission pressure and no quota
• Perform our structured Home Health Report assessments as part of your route
• Document every job to company standards: photos, findings, and clean closeout records
• Work escalations and larger jobs (repipes, sewer replacements) alongside our master plumber
• Help refine our procedures as we document them, and eventually help train junior technicians

What you bring

• 3+ years of residential service plumbing experience, running your own calls
• Confident diagnosing and completing standard residential service work without supervision
• Strong homeowner communication: you can explain a problem and its options in plain language without pressuring anyone
• Comfortable with digital tools: job photos, mobile work orders, digital checklists
• Valid California driver's license, clean driving record, able to lift 75 lbs and work in crawl spaces and attics, pass a background check
• Bonus: journeyman certification, sewer camera and jetting experience, tankless install experience, or Spanish fluency
• Available for a few hours per week of paid field sessions during the ramp-in period, even if currently employed

Before you start

This role includes a short ramp-in period. For up to the first 4 weeks, and potentially before your full-time start date, we may ask for 3 to 4 hours per week of paid field sessions on a flexible schedule, with evening and weekend options if you are still employed elsewhere. This early work would most likely be structured as paid freelance until your full-time start. We will walk through the details in the interview process.
