Job description

CNC Precision Machining Specialist

Bring your mastery of CNC machining to Major Tool & Machine (MTM) and help manufacture components that power Space, Defense, Energy, Nuclear, and Commercial programs. We offer market leading pay, comprehensive benefits, an optional 4/10 work schedule, quarterly bonus potential, and a culture centered on employee engagement and growth.

A day in the life

You arrive to a clean, organized cell, review the day’s priorities, and open the latest print. You translate sketches, drawings, specifications, and router instructions into a clear plan of action—sequencing operations and deciding exactly how to stage the work. You choose and align fixtures, improvise with risers or angle plates when needed, and set up your machine for custom work. As the first cut begins, you dial in speed, feed, and depth, keeping a watchful eye to anticipate any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions. You adjust controls and control media with confidence.

With the first piece off, you verify every feature against print and router specs using precision measuring tools, recording inspection data and ensuring first-piece signoff for multi-piece runs. Throughout the shift, you maintain machine and work-area cleanliness and partner closely with peers, engineers, and leadership—hitting deadlines with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.

We are hiring experienced CNC Machinists for second and third shifts to perform custom machining from setup through run, applying shop math, blueprint reading, and GD&T expertise every step of the way.

What you will handle
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, routing instructions, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions/tolerances, operation sequence, and setup requirements.
  • Select, align, and secure workholding; creatively improvise setups using common tooling such as risers and angle plates.
  • Establish and adjust speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut during machining operations.
  • Observe machine operation to predict/detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions; adjust machine controls/control media as required.
  • Verify machined details meet print and router specifications using precision measuring instruments; record results and ensure first-piece inspection for multiple-piece runs.
  • Maintain daily cleanliness of machines and work area.
What you bring
  • Minimum two years of trade school, vocational education, or apprenticeship.
  • Three to five years of CNC machining experience.
  • Solid foundation in general machining, shop math, precision measuring instruments, blueprint reading, and GD&T.
  • Experience with part and tool probing.
  • High-speed machining experience preferred (16–27k RPM).
  • Some openings may require specialized experience with particular machining processes or equipment.
  • Experience with Siemens 840D control software is a plus.
How you work
  • Positive attitude and reliable attendance.
  • Deadline-driven and team-oriented.
  • Clear communicator with peers, engineers, and leadership.

Benefits and rewards
  • Market leading pay, optional 4/10 schedule, and quarterly bonus potential.
  • Three health plan options, including a base plan with ZERO employee-paid premium.
  • Dental and vision plans with very reasonable employee premiums.
  • Onsite clinic at no additional charge for medical services for health plan participants; mental health services available to all employees.
  • HSA contributions for HDHP options and additional FSA options.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Immediate PTO and 10 paid holidays.
  • In-house training and educational assistance to support your career growth.
  • Tobacco-free facility, onsite fitness center, wellness events.
