Overview

A leading healthcare-focused venture capital firm is seeking an Associate to join its investment team with a focus on the emerging role of artificial intelligence across healthcare and life sciences. The fund is open for the Associate to be in the Boston or Washington D.C. office.

This opportunity is structured as a three-year program designed to provide broad exposure to existing portfolio supports mainly (50+ portfolio companies) with eventual and opportunistic looks into venture investing and company creation. The Associate will work closely with senior investors and management teams across a diverse portfolio spanning biotechnology, diagnostics, research tools, healthcare software - all with an AI tilt.

The role is particularly well-suited for candidates with a strong technical background who are passionate about how AI can transform drug discovery, clinical development, healthcare delivery, and scientific innovation.

Responsibilities

Portfolio Company Support

• Work closely with an active portfolio of more than 50 healthcare and life sciences companies.
• Assist management teams in achieving operational, clinical, and strategic milestones.
• Support follow-on financings, strategic initiatives, and business development efforts.
• Participate in board preparation, board observer activities, and portfolio monitoring.

Investment Evaluation

• Conduct market, technology, scientific, and competitive landscape research.
• Evaluate emerging investment opportunities across healthcare, life sciences, and AI-enabled technologies.
• Support due diligence efforts, investment memos, financial analyses, and presentations for investment committee discussions.
• Participate in expert interviews and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) calls to evaluate technologies and markets.

Company Creation & Strategic Initiatives

• Collaborate with leading academic and research institutions on company formation opportunities.
• Evaluate breakthrough technologies emerging from universities and research centers.
• Assist with company incubation efforts and commercialization strategies.

Desired Background

Technical / AI Profile

• Strong background in computer science, software engineering, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or related technical disciplines.
• Demonstrated interest in applying AI to healthcare and life sciences.
• Interest in areas such as AI-driven drug discovery, Clinical trial optimization, Healthcare software platforms, Diagnostics and decision-support tools, and Research and development enablement technologies

Scientific & Clinical Exposure

• Exposure to life sciences, biotechnology, medicine, or healthcare is highly desirable.
• MD, PhD, or other advanced scientific training is a plus.
• Ability to engage with clinicians, researchers, founders, and industry experts on technical topics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Advanced degree (MD, PhD, MS, or equivalent) preferred but not required.
• Excellent analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Interest in venture capital, healthcare innovation, and company building.
• Ability to synthesize complex technical information into actionable business and investment insights.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across multiple sectors and stages.
