Overview

A leading healthcare and life sciences venture capital firm is seeking an Associate to join its investment team. The firm is specifically interested in candidates with an MD or MD-PhD background who are excited about applying their clinical and scientific expertise to support innovative healthcare companies.


This role is structured as a three-year program designed to provide broad exposure to healthcare investing, portfolio management, board-level engagement, and company building.


The primary focus of the position is supporting an active portfolio of more than 50 companies across biotech, diagnostics, tools, and healthcare software. The Associate will work closely with management teams, investors, and board members to help portfolio companies achieve key clinical, operational, and financing milestones.


In addition to portfolio support responsibilities, the Associate will have the opportunity to contribute to company creation initiatives alongside leading academic institutions and selectively participate in evaluating new investment opportunities.


Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Company Support (Primary Focus)

  • Support an active portfolio of 50+ companies spanning biotechnology, diagnostics, research tools, and healthcare software.
  • Partner with founders and management teams to help companies achieve critical scientific, clinical, operational, and financing milestones.
  • Conduct market research, competitive analyses, and strategic assessments to support portfolio companies.
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives, including follow-on financings and investor communications.
  • Work closely with investment professionals to identify opportunities for value creation across the portfolio.

Board & Stakeholder Support

  • Participate in board observer activities and support board preparation efforts.
  • Help prepare strategic analyses, presentations, and materials for board meetings.
  • Engage with founders, executives, investors, clinicians, and advisors to support portfolio company objectives.

Clinical & Scientific Analysis

  • Conduct Key Opinion Leader (KOL) calls and engage with physicians, researchers, and industry experts.
  • Evaluate clinical data, scientific literature, healthcare markets, and emerging technologies.
  • Provide clinical perspective on portfolio strategy and business development initiatives.
  • Assess unmet medical needs, treatment landscapes, and commercial opportunities across therapeutic areas.

Company Creation & New Investments (Secondary Exposure)

  • Collaborate with leading universities and research institutions on company creation opportunities.
  • Support commercialization efforts for emerging scientific innovations.
  • Participate in diligence efforts and evaluation of new investment opportunities as needed.
  • Contribute to investment memoranda, market assessments, and opportunity reviews.


Qualifications

Required

  • MD or MD-PhD.
  • Strong academic credentials and scientific rigor.
  • Interest in healthcare innovation, biotechnology, venture capital, and entrepreneurship.
  • Ability to synthesize complex clinical, scientific, and business information.

Preferred

  • Interest or exposure to oncology is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in clinical research, translational medicine, biotechnology, healthcare strategy, or startup environments.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to work across multiple healthcare sectors and company stages.
