The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is currently looking to fill one or more Experienced Police Officer position(s).

Eligible applicants for the Experienced Officer posting must:

• Be a current sworn police officer with a minimum of 2 years of policing experience with a Canadian federal, provincial, municipal or First Nations police service, (*Basic police training timemay be includedin the 2-year experience calculation), or a former police officer who has been separated from their police service or agency for less than 2 years.
• Have a minimum of Alberta Grade 12 or equivalent education (certificate required).
• Have Proof of their Canadian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Must submit a driver's abstract dated within six months of application, with no more than five (5) demerit points.
• Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (proof of pardon required), nor have any criminal charges before the courts.
• Have an exemplary record of service and performance history.
• *Special Constables and members of a police agency outside Canada are not eligible to enter the Experienced Officer Training Program. *

Experienced Police Officer applicants will participate in the complete recruiting process and meet the standards set out by the Alberta Police Selection and Employment Manual and provincial guidelines for recruiting.

**PLEASE NOTE: Alberta Communication Test (ACT), Alberta Police Cognitive Ability Test (APCAT) and First Aid are not required for this process.

COMPENSATION

Successful Experienced Officer applicants hired by the LPS may receive:

• Experienced officers hired by the Lethbridge Police Service are eligible to receive a $5000 signing bonus** in lieu of a relocation allowance. This bonus will be issued to newly hired experienced officers upon successful completion of the LPS in-class Experienced officer training program (**Experienced officers hired by the LPS whose employment ends prior to the successful completion of their 18 month probationary period will be required to repay this bonus in full).
• Front loading of Leave hours up to 120 hours
• Hired at the rate of pay consistent with your complete years of experience, but no higher than the First-Class Constable rate of pay or the rank of Constable.

STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS

All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner. The duration of the process can take up to six months.

  • Complete ALL necessary forms: Hearing & Vision test, Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police Officers (APREP)/Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE) Medical Form, etc., and save them.

• Application packages will be reviewed by recruiting officers prior to the APREP testing.
• Successful completion of the APREP concurrent to Provincial standards, OR the PARE physical abilities test in a score of 4 minutes or less is a prerequisite for this position.APREP testing will be arranged and paid for by the Lethbridge Police Service. PARE testing will be arranged and paid for by the applicant who will be reimbursed if hired.

Personal Disclosure Interview

• After the application package is reviewed by the recruiting officer, competitive applicants will be contacted for a Personal Disclosure interview.

Behavioral Descriptive Interview

• Given to candidates still competitive after Personal Disclosure interview;
• Successful candidates will move onto the next stage of the process.

Integrity (truth verification Polygraph) and Psychometric testing (Psychological interview) will be scheduled.

Security Clearance Check will be conducted.

Background check will be conducted.

Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.

PLEASE NOTE: Some costs incidental to the application process may be incurred by the applicant. For example, costs associated to obtain a driver's abstract, class 5 License, hearing and vision tests, etc.

TRAINING

Successful applicants will be eligible to complete an accelerated training program that is approximately 5 weeks in length.

The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.

Facility Dogs

As a prospective employee it is important for you to know that LPS has two facility dogs in the workplace. LPS facility dogs are here to support our employees in positive, constructive manner. Further, LPS facility dogs support the emotional needs of victim's and or witnesses through the Criminal Justice Process. A Facility Dog is directed by a professional with specialized expertise. Facility dogs frequent many areas of our building. In addition, we have police service dogs. Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.
