INFANT ASSISTANT TEACHER
LeafSpring School at McAlpine | Charlotte, NC
LeafSpring School at McAlpine is seeking a nurturing, dependable, and energetic Infant Assistant Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will understand that caring for infants requires patience, attentiveness, consistency, and a genuine love for early childhood education.
The Infant Assistant Teacher will work alongside the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, loving, and engaging classroom where every child feels secure, supported, and valued.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain active supervision and follow all staff-to-child ratio requirements.
  • Complete accurate name-to-face attendance checks during every transition.
  • Assist with feeding, diapering, napping, and other daily caregiving routines.
  • Follow each infant’s individualized feeding and sleeping schedule.
  • Follow all safe-sleep requirements and LeafSpring School’s Safe Sleep Policy.
  • Properly label, store, prepare, warm, and serve bottles and food.
  • Complete all required bottle and feeding checks with accuracy.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and developmentally appropriate classroom.
  • Follow required handwashing, diaper-changing, sanitation, and three-compartment sink procedures.
  • Support the Lead Teacher in implementing age-appropriate learning experiences.
  • Engage infants through talking, singing, reading, floor play, sensory activities, and responsive caregiving.
  • Observe children and communicate important information to the Lead Teacher and administration.
  • Accurately document meals, bottles, diaper changes, naps, and daily activities in Procare.
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
  • Follow all LeafSpring School, NC DCDEE, health, safety, confidentiality, and mandated-reporting requirements.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and professional-development activities.
  • Assist in other classrooms or areas of the school when needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • North Carolina Early Childhood Credential preferred; candidates must be willing to obtain any required credential within the timeframe established by NC DCDEE and LeafSpring School.
  • Previous experience working with infants in a licensed childcare setting is preferred.
  • Must qualify for employment under North Carolina childcare background-check requirements.
  • Must complete all required orientation, health-and-safety, and ongoing training.
  • Must hold or obtain approved Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must complete Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep and SIDS Risk Reduction in Child Care training within the required timeframe.
  • Must provide all documentation required by LeafSpring School and NC DCDEE.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift and carry children weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit on the floor, bend, kneel, stand, reach, and move throughout the classroom.
  • Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies.
  • Ability to perform frequent diapering, feeding, cleaning, and classroom-care tasks.
