Position Details

A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) supports specific students needing one-on-one help, implementing learning/behavior plans, assisting with daily tasks, maintaining records, and ensuring safety, working under teachers/principals, requiring specific post-secondary education or competency tests, and valid clearances.

Key Responsibilities

1. Student Support: Provide individualized assistance for equitable participation in the school day.
2. Behavior Management: Implement positive reinforcement and behavior support strategies as designed.
3. Instructional Assistance: Help with remediation of learning problems as directed.
4. Record Keeping: Maintain confidential student records and files.
5. Safety & Security: Monitor students and ensure their safety.
6. Equipment Use: Instruct and monitor students on using classroom materials.

Qualifications

1. Education: At least two years of post-secondary study (48 credits) or an Associate's Degree or higher.
2. Competency: Pass the state/local assessment (Special Education Credential of Competency or CAPE test).
3. Clearances: Valid PA Criminal, Child Abuse, and FBI Criminal History Background Checks.
4. Certifications: Current First Aid/CPR as assigned.
5. Professional Development: 20 hours annually related to the position.

Typical Work Environment

1. Works with a specific student or small group needing consistent support.
2. Reports to the assigned school principal.
3. Often involves daily shifts, Monday through Friday.
